Yeah, I know what you mean. But lets be honest, thats how nearly all of these mangas work, it's a mixture between destiny, friendship and righteousness. And the stories are more or less the same too. But I like how Oda tells these stories. He is planning so much ahead, Haki wasn't introduced until Maiden Island (One could argue Skypea) I believe? But it was foreshadowed way earlier during some big fights and built up little by little. Also that he is introducing important characters way earlier than in most other mangas and I think thats kind of impressive.
But I know I am a bit optimistic in this regards. I thought the same thing about Lost and you know how it turned out ^^

I think Jinbei will fit in fine lol .. and I liked this arc a lot, doesn't deserve the hate its getting

I think Jinbei is a bit boring. He doesn't seem to have any flaws or unique features or crazy ideas like the other Straw-hats and is just too... normal, he is a very very strong fishman but a normal fishman if you understand what i mean. Let's see what will Oda do to make him more interesting if he really joins.
Other than that, I liked this arc. It wasn't super epic or anything but i thought it was quite fun for a show-off-our-new-powers arc.

Why Jimbei gets all this hate? Lets see we had like 3 viable options for a new crew member : Jimbei, Shirahoshi, Mud guy
Jimbei wins by a long shot ... he is the most wellrounded pick you can get.Strong, ex Shichibukai, Fishman who has a power boost in the sea and has a viable position to be the ship's helmsman. Shirahoshi is cute sexy mermaid with great power(other than that she is WEAK ) but cant leave the sea and she is huge. Mud guy is hilarious and he is a logia but he is really evil and dont fit strawhats because of that.

I wonder how strong jinbei is in comparison to luffy, zoro, sanji- Oda's usually pretty clear that zoro and sanji are tied for being the second strongest crew member, with zoro maybe a little ahead. jinbei seems to fulfill a more utility type of role, but is also very powerful. hmm. SH pirates definitely a much huger force to be reckoned with with this addition. psyched for next arc!

Well there was also an option to not recruit a new member just yet. When Jinbei was introduced i felt he was more of a mentor character than a nakama character. More like Raleigh. Strawhats have their unique weaknesses and personalities and Jinbei is too well-rounded and composed IMO.
Also I never ever considered Weakyhoshi or mudman to be a new nakama in my wildest dreams :D. (earlier i thought Bon-chan or Perona could maybe join but that didn't work out)
EDIT: I know i complain a lot but i also consider Jinbei to be quite a good addition and i expect Oda to fill the holes in his personality and characteristics.

Though really it was a nice chapter, more wrap up but also teasers on the significance of Noah plus a possible new nakama.

People are jumping the gun. Luffy just asked Jinbei to join but that doesn't mean he will. Luffy has been denied before.

i knew this was going to happen. i am happy that Jinbe is finally/should finally be joining the crew.
I'm calling it now thou. I think his main 'dream' could be finding Koala (slave girl the Sun pirates got home), after all there has to be some greater purpose to that character now that shes in her 20s now right? did they ever say if her home-island was in the New World?
Hope we get to see Big Mom before this arc completely finishes too.

Whats wrong with Jinbei joining the crew? All we know is that he is a badass fishman. Zoro's personality quirks and stuff didn't show up till after he was recruited. Luffy invited Brook into the crew after he met him for the first time lol. We even have Robin in the crew already who is a serious type, and she fits just fine.
It could go either way with Jinbe joining. I like his character, so him joining would be fine with me. The Strawhats will have 4 "monsters" now if he decides to join.
Also lol@people who think Shirahoshi would join. She is as big as the entire ship, and can't go on land. How is she supposed to come along on future adventures, or even fight? Call Sea Kings every arc to eat the entire island or something?

I'm of 2 minds on this one. On the one hand I think it'd be badass if Jinbei joins, on the other, he does kinda upset the dynamic given that he's powerful as all hell in his own right.
