If it had been some scientific use of rubber it wouldn't have fit Luffy's character. It's not some lame explosion screaming power up so we know Oda isn't going down the DBZ-esque route that has felled many a manga before. This power up was the perfect mix of goofy/silly stupidity and awesomeness | ||

It isnt Battle Armour. Check again. Gear 4 is Balloon Luffy, (really just expands his muscles and creates retracting arms) allowing him to use his rubber abilities to its fullest currently. | ||
