It's actually an interesting parallel to his "you can't track me because of my afterimage thing", taking advantage of his opponent's battle knowledge)

Then he activates bankai step 3 and both of them start leaking hitpoints

So either the enemy has to be able to one-shot Shunshui to prevent him from using his Bankai, or be tanky AF to survive it. The first scenario aint gonna happen because Kubo loves his Calvinball sequence and no one ever wins outright right away.

Anyways, a suicide bankai is a nice way of taking Shunshui out of the picture along with a really strong bad gu.
