Basically, it'll be like the ending of Mass Effect 3 with Ichigo taking the place of Commander Shepard. Sacrilege to compare a scrub like him to Shepard I know, but just imagine that all the cool parts of Shepard got put in the Gotei 13 instead or something. The Soul King has some deeply rooted problems, so he created Ichigo to see if he could solve it by proxy. At the end, Ichigo will have the option to say fuck you (Refusal), become the Soul King himself (Control), destroy the hollows and other stuff along with it (Destroy), or sacrifice himself to break the cycle and finally fix things (Synthesis). Non-Synthesis options basically just mean that the Soul King has to make another Ichigo and try again. Nobody wants to wade through all that shit again, so my vote goes for Synthesis. No wonder the "So be it" in some of the Mass Effect endings sounds so irritated. I would be too. Like I said, basically a complete and utter nonsensical asspull - which also means that it's probably exactly what Kubo will do. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Search your feelings, you know it to be true. not that crazy idea, the soul king had both his arms defect and was sealed in a crystal he might have "helped" urahara create the Hogyoko and set up Ichigos birth in order to create a vessel thats suitable to be the next soul king, something that is part everything (human, hollow, quincy, shinigami) maybe Ichigo will fuse with Aizen or some crap and create new soul king lol

i'm kind of done beating the dead horse as there is literally no comment that ever discusses the manga without once again kicking the dead horse, so i'll just comment on the manga why was he elected the next commander? perhaps there were less experienced and less trustworthy captain's but this guy seems to be the most lazy and non committal captain out of all the captains. yeah he may have some hidden trump card but my god is he aloof. the guy doesn't look disciplined at all nor does he look like a reliable person who commits to keeping order within the society but i guess that's out the window when shit already hit the fan after aizen slaughters everyone and then an even larger threat ensues right after...but jesus there could have been a better choice than this guy.

Why? Because he is the strongest living shinigami after the captain commander died

Well I just see him as a Columbo type. He seems doofy and lazy but he is probably the sharpest knife in the drawer. That knife just has a sheath over it.

I wonder if his bankai is something that means all damage is shared between all the people affected. That would explain why he cant use it around others as while he could survive those weaker than him would die. One of the translations has him complaining about "being strong means you have to live through stuff that it would be easier to die to, but still carry on as if nothing happens" esk stuff which may suit that type of bankai. idk

It would be ridiculous to kill him off after what, a year? But either way hyped as fuck for his bankai I don't think it's even been more than a few days since the Wandenreich's initial invasion where Yamamoto died, but I'm not sure. Maybe suicide isn't meant in a literal sense though. I remember back against Starrk he threatened to use Bankai and then Ukitake told him not to. Then he managed to kill him without using his Bankai. Would he really kill himself to beat an opponent he could beat without Bankai? I wonder what "game" this Bankai is going to be based on, though.

According to the Kaiser Gesang "9 days after he regains his power, the emperor will regain the world." We are either on day 9 or somewhere within the 9 day limit depending on whether you think Yhwach has succesfully "regained the world" by taking over as soul king.
