In 2008 Gina Carano was , imo, the most beautiful woman walking the face of god's green earth. In 2008. her acting in Red Alert 3 was really bad. So bad, they removed all of her lines. She was very bad at the start of her career.

I thought she was going the route of other zero talent female action stars like Ronda Rousey and Joanie Laurer. She was far more humble about her lack of acting skills compared to Joanie and Ronda though.

Ms. Carano developed into a decent actor over the next decade. I thought she'd be horrible forever. I'm glad to be wrong.

Congratz to Ms. Carano for playing in the low minor leagues of the industry in order to develop her acting skills. This movie isn't very good, however, it was a key stepping stone in Ms. Carano's acting career.

Scorched Earth: 6.5/10.
Gina Carano 10/10.

If you like Gina Carano then I highly recommend this movie.

Monster Hunter

Utter crap. Chinese influences are really heavy in this one (plenty of asians, no black actors, no blood). The movie is pretty much garbage with CGI and music that want to feel epic but don't. Even actors like Ron Pearlman can't save this one.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

Watched some Netflix movies the past couple of weeks and these stories just linger in my memory for their emotional impact:

Mudbound - American Deep South drama during the 1940's. Starts slow but picks up after the start of WW2. Makes you think how tough it is to live there even when you're trying very hard to avoid trouble.

A Sun - Taiwan modern family drama. Family just gets one bad news after another. Their one consolation is that one of their kids is smart and has a bright future. Things will happen and you won't know why until the story gets told much later through interactions with other characters. Great film, although it needs some editing to cut the length down.

Roma - Black and white drama showing the life of a family maid in old Mexico. Again brilliantly acted. I've lived in the Philippines and a lot of their family servants are still employed as such there. I don't know why its shot in black and white though. Would've loved to see some of the scenes in color.

The White Tiger - Funny and sometimes grim drama of a family driver for the rich in India. It showcases how life is cheap there, and the corruption and the caste system really is entrenched in the society. The driver has to hurdle all these to escape poverty. The script is funny.

Today I watched the entire Nolan Dark Knight Trilogy

Its actually brilliant. I have seen each film separately before and had a totally different experience. Previously i would have given each film 7-8/10 but as a whole i would give it 9.5.
The themes don't repeat but complement each other, the characters evolve really well (except Alfred who is the same throughout but that's kind of the point) and the third film works ALOT better with the first one fresh in your mind. The Batman voice is still ridiculous but that's about the only thing I didn't like.

For me, Batman Begins is the best comic book based movie by a wide margin. I don't think any other comic book movie comes close.

#1
Alfred : "you are getting lost inside this monster you've created ...you also have the Wayne name to think about"
Bruce : "i don't care about my name"
Alfred: "well your father did... and that's all that is left of him.."

#2
Bruce leaving an expensive hotel restaurant with 2 hot babes after a long night of partying and he bumps into Rachel.
Rachel to Bruce: "but its not who you are underneath... its what you do that defines you"

Thomas Wayne was a healer... a doctor of medicine. Bruce Wayne was a seemingly erratic violent warrior/guardian.

The acting in Batman Begins is off the charts great.

IDK I think that the dark knight is just untouchable. The Sound of the whole movie is unlike anything else, Grinding the horsehair on the violin, everything joker says is worked a bit I'm convinced but batman voice is also somehow saved in post I think that isn't third and first.

But its the incredible panning shots that I haven't seen the same in other movies. Where he shifts to a different format and gets those incredible shots of the Irish funeral march, the hospital blowing up and then the way that it shifts to night at the end of the movie while sweeping the camera around to see the entire city. The city was destroyed in the third one way too soon to get enough of that and the first didn't spend that much time during the day to get the kind of light for it.

Plus I don't like origin movies, They take so much time to "introduce" the hero that they never get to a good villain.

Godzilla vs Kong was really enjoyable. Watched it 2x since it dropped. The colors are really well done and the ending is a total throwback to the early films of two monsters just wrecking a city. Some parts feel like they could have been left out and the movie would have been just fine. Probably a 7/10 for monster movies.

Personally I thought the dark knight was slightly flawed in terms of story. They were cramming too much in near the end, with the two boats, gordon's family, two face, joker, the clown mask civilians etc.It just seemed there were moral dilemmas everywhere and it was a little bit of a contrived way to show how much batman had grown and how hard it is for him. It was making a point but that point didn't come organically as the story progressed and it was just kind of forced.
That's kind of nitpicky though, and again its not much of a criticism. As you say the cinematography and the sound in it are amazing, and Ledger definitely adds something to the Joker that wasn't really there before.

Who needs 21st century forensic science when you've got Lieutenant Columbo on the case?

I'd say Lieutenant Columbo is the best fictional detective of all time.

i fuckin' love it. he gets the guy to fire the murder weapon in order to see his reaction to the request.
he is "helping with the investigation" ROFLMAO.

Columbo movies stream for free on Peacock. I highly recommend this episode.

Just watched The Thomas Crown Affair.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

I enjoyed the movie up until a plot hole the size of the Grand Canyon took place...

+ Show Spoiler +

Thomas Crown is a Criminal Mastermind, he's also very, very rich. At the start of the film he steals the San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk by Claude Monet.

Renee Russo's character works for an insurance company that has insured the Monet that was stolen and she suspects Thomas Crown of taking it. So what does she do first? She interrogates one of the Romanian thieves that served as a distraction... She's not a law enforcement person, nor does he have an attorney present. Case would be thrown out.

THEN... it happens. She and a crew break into Thomas Crown' house and steal, what they think is the genuine painting that was stolen and take it back to the Police Station to rounds of applause. Until an expert finds a ghost of dogs playing poker. It was a fake.

She and her crew would be immediately arrested, the cops who did not report her including the lead detective would also be charged. She even confronts him about it in public at a party. More witnesses to her crime as well the police.

TLDR: Thomas Crown should have ended up owning the Insurance Company she worked for, as well being a potential witness to the Police and Co. characters during the investigation when a judge is deciding how long to send them to prison for.

I watched White House Down the other day.
I enjoyed it far more than any of the bland action movies i've been watching through on Netflix. A good 8/10
Its stupid, like insanely stupid, but really enjoyable because it seems to know how stupid it is so everything is turned up to 11. The president firing a rocket launcher out of a limo window at the WH gates? Check. Tanks? Check. Bombs? Check. Guns, guns guns? Helicopters? All in the White House? Sign me up.

OMFG! OMFG! OMFG!
https://www.ign.com/articles/borderlands-movie-plot-revealed-casts-edgar-ramirez-as-atlas-founder

Borderlands1 has a great story arc with a great giant plot twist near the end. The mouthy, weirdo, arrogant chick that fucks you over so hard... en route to getting the Vault Key is the one who ends up paying you a giant sum of cash to buy back the Key. A Vault Key you nearly had to die for 20 times during its assembling and acquisition.

In Borderlands 1 and 2 the Patricia Tannis character is off the charts great. I hope Jamie Lee Curtis can do her justice.

Cate Blanchett as Lilith? That's great that she's doing this game to movie adaptation, bringing her acting chops to the genre. But I wonder if the character won't be doing a lot of physical stunts then.

If it looks like GvK in terms of "realistic" CGI and VE, but plays like RPO, then maybe? I'm not holding my breath on Netflix.
