I mean, what can you really expect from a screenwriter who has no other credits to his name besides this movie?

Looks like the movie won't get high praise among MK fans...

In the end, it's a decent film, nothing more.

Everything else was good. Nah, it actually plain wasn't. I had some fun watching it but to be any form of good, it should at least try to make somewhat sense. This doesn't even make any sense in the context of it being a Mortalk Kombat movie, that is an achievment in itself. We got a totally idiotic and nonsensial plot, an utterly unneeded "main guy" and some decent or well, at least fun fight scenes. Some of the fanservice was fun, most was cringe and just lazy. There is so much that could easily have been done better in this... 5/10 is actually very generous.

My biggest issue is what they did to my boy Kung Lao. That was unforgiveable. The fights ended too quickly and there was no way that a lot of what happened, should have happened. But I still enjoyed it for what it was. Homage to the MK series in a new fight. Now, that being said, if/when they do MK2, if they fuck that up, then I'll gladly shit all over the movies. But I can give them the benefit of the doubt with regards to what might come next.

Army of the Dead Snyder's new zombie flick is available on Netflix everywhere and in select regional theaters. It's a bit strange genre bending mash-up slash pastiche, but doesn't quite veer far enough into its weirdness. The opening credits are truly great, but the rest of the (very long) runtime doesn't really live up that to potential. There's a whole bunch of fun movie and TV references, a good amount of gore and pulpy schlock. Script could've used some trimming and focusing. There's a bunch of stand-out characters/performances. After a year in various strict lockdowns it manages to feel eerily topical every once in a while. Overall I found it a fun romp. Snyder's Dawn remake was a homage that brought something fresh to the genre and with 28 Days Later brought a whole bunch of new zombie films to the forefront. I don't think this hits quite the same notes, and after a torrent of zombie flicks this past decade I really think we're overdue for something more revolutionary. + Show Spoiler + Then there's the little details peppered throughout. The UFOs in the sky at the very start (I think they were UFOs), the robot zombies (???), the other teams sent in before our squad, the time loop chat. It's like Snyder trying to introduce other elements into a very tropey genre, sometimes for laughs, other times as references.

But look at it as if they were introducing people to MK if they weren't the OG diehards from back in the day. I think that for people unfamiliar with MK-verse this movie would be even more confusing and thus a rather poor introduction. Also, since Cole is the protagonist people might actually expect to see him in the games or read up on him online afterwards and he's just not there - more confusion! They could've just make a story about Sonia and Jax hunting down Kano and getting mixed up in the tournament while at it. Much simpler and easier to digest with main characters being featured in all the games too. Oh, wait a moment....

Joker was ok. then you mention 3 movies that all are about war. I actually watched 1917 the other day. they are ok movies but not that great like Parasite. i'll check out Mandy.

The Farewell is also a great movie. About a Chinese grandma that is dying, but the family decid to hide it from her, so in order for them to see her on last time, they hold a weeding. Billy the main character lives in the US, so it's a about clash of culture, but mostly about lossing someone u love. It is a heart warming comedy with something to say.

I was making a statement that I have observed recently. I can list so many new movies that came out and totally dissapointed me. I kinda wish , wish, army of the dead, MK and all the recent hyped movies that came out were actually good. Personal opinion tho you might reply. well ok. Maybe if I was 12 years old and never seen movies like Terminator 2 or Conan (the old ones) since we talking about action movies then yeah maybe i would be a bit more positive about these movies but sadly I was born in the 80's.
