A generally palatable but boring movie will do well on a yes/no aggregation like that. The more useful response would be the averaged critic rating.
Can it be I stayed away too long? Did you miss these rhymes while I was gone?

The New Yorker review is pretty damning actually

Saw Sicario 2 today. Extremely great watch. It follows its predecessor with it’s amazingly tense/grim moments. The music was fucking amazing. And Benecio’s acting was, as usual, superb.

I’m quite upset that rotten tomatoes only gave it a 61. While movies like the last Jedi has 91. I hope the metric was based on an “all ages” kind of thing then I’d understand.

Otherwise, ITS A MUST WATCH IF U ENJOYED THE FIRST ONE. Even though Emily Blunt isn’t in this one (she more or less played the virtue signaler in the first one anyways)

The Death of Stalin (2017)

I really enjoyed this satire. Its an Armando Ianucci movie, a comedian who is known for his distinctive, chaotic and realistic style of humor. He made In the Loop and the UK political satirical series in the Thick of it.
The Death of Stalin is, as you would expect, about the fallout of Stalin's death and the power games and race to the top that ensued. It has some hilarious comedy, as well as quite an intense ending (think Four Lions but maybe less funny). I would definitely recommend this movie to US audiences who want to see something a bit different from what they are used to.
Its not mindblowing, or the best movie ever, but its certainly worth a watch.

I've been on a B-movie binge on Amazon Prime lately, and after watching some Roger Corman sci-fi schlock I found a movie that was described as "similar to" his work: Party Day Massacre Stories. Roger Corman would likely not be pleased about this.

While at first from the trailer it looked like boobs-y shot-on-digital 2010s-era garbage, after starting it I quickly found out it was that..and so much more. I don't know whether to feel embarrassed or offended for the people in the film (luckily they all *seem* to be enjoying themselves) but oh man is it bad-good. Whether you want routine filmmaking mistakes (obvious shadows of the camera or cameraman), acting and blocking issues (mugging for the camera and laughing as one is murdered are commonplace), odd writing (the second of the titular stories is called "Evil Killer Spirit in a Book") or questionable editing choices (a powerpoint wipe is used for the names to appear in the opening credits and a purple font is used on a black screen to describe time passing), this movie has almost everything you could want in a movie like this.

The biggest problem is that there's just too much discussion of rape (and actual rape, one time is too many) and between that and the sheer amount of boobage watching this in mixed company, or any company really, would likely be a terrible decision. That, and the fact that it may lean too far towards the "trying to be a bad movie" spectrum for some people that like bad movies.

I forgave it a lot of this because it ends on a black screen saying "Thank you for watching my first movie I ever made And I plan on getting better and making more."

Solid 7/10 bad movie. The trailer is incredibly NSFW, by the way, if you couldn't tell already.

Holy hell that party day massacre stories trailer was hilarious. Not sure I could stomach a full length movie in that style though

I actually felt the same way, then gave it a shot on a whim to screen it for potential bad movie nights (I figured 15 minutes would be enough). After I got to the Hennessy pouring scene I couldn't tear myself away.

But yeah, it's definitely not for everyone.

This movie was so bad on so many levels... Rampage is a masterpiece compared to it.

Yeah, I read the piece of the New Yorker on The Incredibles 2.

Wow! It takes something to interpret Incredibles 1 in that way! Absolutely astonishing!

And to have the guts to say that Black Panther has greatness reeks of ideology instead of criticism on a movie.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was horrible. The first half was kind of what I was expecting and was fine, but nothing special. The second half was almost a different movie with setting, plot, atmosphere and I absolutely hated it. 4/10

Incredibles 2: What a watch, great animation, non stop comedic relief, fun action and a social review without boring the audience with it by just using it as a part of the narrative tool. Great stuff, watch it!

In the spirit of the 4th of July, I finally watched Independence Day. I've only seen bits and highlights of it before, and some on TV, but never the full thing. It's not a great movie, but it's still so dumb, light-hearted, and simplistic to still be entertaining. The multitude of cheesy one-liners, sketchy to iconic special effects, and the unabashedly triumphant score come together for a surprisingly fun watch.

I also did a double feature with Independence Day 2 today, and that one didn't hold up as well. It felt more serious and generic, with a more complicated plotline that betrays its predecessor's simplicity. The actors don't have as much chemistry or stupidly hilarious one-liners, but Jeff Goldblum still entertains when he does Jeff Goldblum things.

I think Independence Day did the first contact mass panic thing well. I don't remember any movie before it that conveyed the same thought I had then that yep, that's how the world will react when something that intimidating pops up in the sky. The attempts to communicate with the aliens and then the realization that its either them or us was perfect as well.

Yeah, ID1 played up the civilian and survival aspects a lot, and the aliens were more mysterious and needed more problem-solving to defeat in the second half. It felt more grounded, and I liked that. In ID2, it jumped faster into fighting the aliens with futuristic weapons, and it didn't feel as compelling or as charmingly cheesy.

Ant-man and the Wasp

Another marvel film. Hard to rate these movies as they are exactly what you expect of them. Humor that carries the film. Worth a watch, but it's a movie you quickly forget after you've seen it, and no emotions is lingering as you get into your car driving home.
Still miles and heapes better then last movie I saw, Jurassic world, who at the end took a dive into the shithole making me want my hour back.

Ant-man Wasp was funny. As stated in the post above me, the humor carries the movie. Definitely worth a see if ur a fan of all the marvel tropes.

just saw "Absence of Malice" , 1981. Paul Newman, Sally Field.
great movie. i love how old movies pace slowly allowing one to carefully contemplate the plot developments.

the scene 1 hour into the movie is a perfect example of why zero tolerance for violence against women is a dogmatic, BS , oversimplified policy.

rather ironic we have all these liberals running around yapping about how tolerant they are and they have zero tolerance for any one of 5,000 things.

any how... Paul Newman's physicality with Sally Field 1 hour into the movie was a fantastic exploration of the gray areas of assault... it was epic listening to him describe the details of Theresa Perrone's suicide.

i'm sure Sally Field could take photos of herself with special lighting from the perfect angle and make the abrasions on her skin look like a crime against humanity.

The Last Dragonslayer

Yet another movie I've watched and I have no idea why it has such low scores on IMDB. It reminded me of the old movies based on Pratchett's works, with all the absurd humor and such. I've found it delightful and light entertainment. Very enjoyable if you want to kill some time and like a bit of ridiculousness in your life.
