I would say, the explosion of Baelor seemed like a quick and convenient way to end story lines.

But also tied in a lot of existing plot breadcrumbs. Chekhov's Gun and all that. Why bring up a Mad King with explosives all over the city and not use them?

Tyrell story was cleaned up a little too neatly with it, but it was the obvious conclusion to the Tommen and Sparrows arc, and was the next step to push Cersei into full Mad Queen territory.

Well the plot doesn’t demand people die. The plot doesn’t demand anything. I strongly oppose that framing, as it make the story seem like it is some organic, growing thing that as agency. Any writer with any level of competence knows which characters are going to die and live through the arch of the story, and frame their story around that.

When you have shows like the Walking Dead, it is clear they don’t know when characters should live or die. They don’t have clear arch for them and just keep them around until they need some drama. In GoT, the story is clearly plotted out, but at times Martin seems to throw in curve balls just because he doesn’t want to be predictable. For example Jon Snow’s death and resurrection always felt like a cheap cliff hanger that Martin added because people had figured out the arch of his story.

Extinction - 2018

This is a B-Movie science fiction. They took a plot and tried to push the limit of how much information you can omit, while still keeping the viewer interested. They definitely over do it, and also, the Movie is told way too fast, for how slowly the suspense is building. What I mean by that, is that the plot is driven by action and campy acting when more silent world building could have made this a good movie. The great thing is how they put the pieces back together after scrambling them, like I wasn't shocked by any plot twist, it was more of a yepp, that makes sense.
Not the worst movie, if you imagine this is from the 90s and maybe shot with 1/10 of the budget of eXistenZ and really need some sci fi.

In GoT it always seemed early on as if a character's decision making skills determined their ability to live or die. It was about who could play the game better than anyone else. This was my favourite thing about the show to be honest. Later on they have focused more on general fighting skills and/or plot planning (not to mention deus ex machina) as a way to determine life or death, and has become much more typical because of it.

I had the opposite impression, that the Game is an illusion of structure to a chaotic, flawed system of government that can’t transfer power without bloodshed and chaos.

like 15/100 for me, I wasted one and a half of my life, the acting is bad, the effects are B level, and the children are annoying as hell, the twist could have been handle better, it wasnt a surprise after all...

Watcher beware on some of Netflix's originals. Gone are the days of Ex Machina and actually good movies that just didn't get picked up by bigger studios.

I really do need to find time to watch a few things. I've been meaning to see Isle of Dogs for months now but haven't gotten around to it.

Jon's death is a lot more of a plotted conclusion in the books, because he's playing Northern politics while being Lord Commander. Basically another Stark caught between duty and honour.

I'd say the vast majority of characters killed off in the last couple seasons are because the TV writers needed to clean up a lot of plots before they ran out of episodes. Stannis was killed prematurely, even before the show caught up with his book counterpart. Ditto to Barristan (though in his case, it's probably because his actor would never live up to the hype). Boltons, Tyrells, all of Dorne, etc. were basically written off set as fast as they could once the show passed the books.

Who knows how Martin will write the rest of the story, if those books will even come out ever. But there's a fairly clear divide between him writing a long drawn out storyline for absolutely everyone, and the show needing a conclusion within a set timeframe.

Phantom Thread
- Excellent character-driven drama. Very well-acted as ever by Daniel Day-Lewis as a meticulous and obsessive dressmaker for royals. It really looks like he knows what he is doing. His young muse, played by Vicky Krieps, is also great. She is the normal girl who understands the crazy dude. Their interactions make this unusual pairing entertaining to watch. Probably one of the movies from Paul Thomas Anderson that I've enjoyed from beginning to end.

Here is why GlenGarry Glen Ross is such an important movie. Nice historical perspective... nice analysis. It completely spoils the movie though.

Bridgette Fonda is a great actress. "A Simple Plan" and "Jackie Brown" were awesome and she was a big part of making them great.

The Shape of Water - Was a bit disappointed with this. I didn't connect with the monster-human relationship as it didn't feel authentic. The gore was surprising but I guess it was expected from this director. Michael Shannon as the bad guy was the best part in the whole thing.

The Commuter - Liam Neeson doing what he does best for this action/thriller. He grounds this film's preposterous plot just by listening to his voice. I've seen him play this role before and I will continue to enjoy them.

Black Panther - finally saw this and it lived up to the hype. It was uplifting to see Marvel merge traditional African culture and futuristic technology to show us what it would look like. Chadwick Boseman is going to be one of the greatest African-American actors there is, right up there with Morgan Freeman.

Saw "Game Night" 2018. Great fucking movie. Good ol' fun and comedy. Definitely a movie thats aimed at my age demographic (Im 29). Highly recommended if youre looking for a fun watch. Just dont take the movie seriously.

Also saw "Lincoln" 2012. I really quite liked this. Im not sure how this skimmed over my radar for this long, this type of movie is definitely the stuff I love. Steven Speilberg definitely delivered with this. Also Daniel Day-Lewis fucking delivers with his performance, I felt genuine authenticity from the way he captured Lincoln's behavior. + Show Spoiler [one of my fav scenes] +
Highly recommend this one as well. Its on Netflix.

edit:
Oh ya I also saw "The Nun". Dont fucking watch it, its garbage. Or at least wait till its not on theaters anymore. Seriously, they use cheap pseudo romance to pander to the younger audience and predictable as fuck jump scares. I was also starting to get "zombie resident evil" vibes, which is NOT a good thing. How this wasnt straight-to-dvd is beyond me.

I liked Game Night too. The poster is pretty bad, but it's a really fun, light movie.

I also watched What We Do In The Shadows recently, which has the same light vibe but Taika Waititi humor. Highly recommend that one too.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Was not as bad as I thought it would be. Quite enjoyable actually.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado

Was not as good as I thought it would be. Kind of meh.
