The Prestige was pretty excellent. It's a story of rivalry and Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale play their parts excellently. With Nolan's directing, it's definitely worth a watch. The plot isn't realistic whatsoever, but it's still pretty exciting to watch. I'd say it's very solid for a movie that you just want to enjoy, as long as you don't try to dissect the science of it since it's completely implausible.
Really enjoyed American History X. It's one of Edward Norton's best performances, and it depicts a pretty brutal reality of racial tension in America, especially in light of the racial tensions over the last few months. Great movie, although some of the scenes are a bit brutal.
There were two movies when this came out that were so similar it was stupid, the other was The Illusionist with Ed Norton, I enjoyed both films but it was one of those moments in movie history when you just had to laugh at the similarities between titles studios were putting out. I remember because I was working at Blockbuster and had to stock this stuff. XD

Yeah, I saw that on IMDb when I was checking out The Prestige. I have to say though, Christopher Nolan is one of my favorite directors of recent times and I heard that The Prestige was the better movie. I did notice that they seemed like the exact same movie and came out in the same year which is pretty ridiculous...
Also, Blockbuster is like extinct now. It's so weird to remember the days of being a little kid and walking around finding movies to rent. I feel like those were the good old days, but it was probably inconvenient as hell and is much faster now haha.
I thought that the Illusionist was better. I felt like I already knew the plot of the Prestige before it was finished.
Guardians of the Galaxy - finally saw it and it didn't match the hype. Chris Pratt is just too goofy that its tough to believe he's the leader of the group. The cast chemistry just feels false to me because of it. Kept comparing him negatively with Nathan Fillion in Serenity. Iron Man is still the best Marvel-made movie in my opinion.
Memento - saw the whole thing now instead of remembering bits and pieces of it. Excellent film setup, with reverse chronology and all. The only gripe is the reveal at the end and the main character's reaction to it.

I still have a nametag from there yo, shit is solidified in history for me
I'm kinda slow catching up with movies, baring this in mind I'm going to point you movie buffs in the direction of Gravity, which came out in 2013. I love this film, I even bothered to find a pic to entice you with!
Ta Da. No spoilers.. Set in the current day, in space, around the crew repairing the hubble space telescope. Stuff happens! Holy shit does stuff happen.
Just checked and it won 7 oscars. Including best achievement in visual effects. The CGI in this film is stunning. Stunning I tell you. Even if you're not a sci-fi buff watch this film. It's not sci-fi anyway! Sci-Fact! (edit, no little green men, pew pew zap lazers etc).

Enjoyment of The Prestige is entirely dependent on + Show Spoiler +
how much you want to hit your head on a wall after the ending.
.
There's a lot of good subtle details, strong storytelling, really deep characterization, but it can all just hit a brick wall once you find out + Show Spoiler +

To be honestly, Tesla's advice was pretty fucking stupid. Honestly though, I looked beyond that and appreciated the performances of Michael Caine, Hugh Jackman, and Christian Bale and more of the development of the two magicians' competition. I thought that the illusion itself was kind of stupid, but it was interesting to me watching them escalate their tricks further and further. I tend to appreciate movies more for their acting and characters than their plot though. I kind of expected Sarah to kill herself since they referred to Christian Bale's daughter as being an orphan, but I didn't really see the part about Christian Bale having a twin coming. In truth it seemed a little bit like deus ex machina, but I thought that Nolan's use of the diaries to drive the plot forward was pretty cool in a Memento-esque way. Maybe I'm just a Nolan fanboy though haha.

It couldn't have been a scam. There were clones of Hugh Jackman lined up in all those tanks at the end, before Christian Bale sets them all on fire. I think that the bigger part was about how dedicated the two magicians were to their practice. When they are watching the Asian man who always acts like he's disabled, Christian Bale points this out and tells Jackman that he's completely dedicated to his trade. In the same way, both Bale and Jackman were completely dedicated to their illusions towards the end of it. Jackman remarks that Bale couldn't understand how terrifying it was not knowing if today he was going to be the man in the box. At first I thought he was talking about not knowing if he was going to die, but I think it was more about having someone else take credit for his amazing illusion.

I absolutely despise these kinds of videos. You could point out "stupid" shit from every movie ever made and i truly hope that not a lot of people watch movies this way.

The twin reveal was foreshadowed enough, and if you rewatch and pay close attention, Christian Bale actually makes subtle differences when he's playing a different brother.
Taken 3 IMDB rank is too low imo. Yes you could debate that its better to not digg up this taken-concept, but the movie was pretty watchable and didnt bore me at all, my rating 7.0 for a descent movie.
2001: A Space Odyssey is a film that takes a while to appreciate. I'd recommend going into it with an open mind and just trying to take in the ambiance and score. I can't say I enjoyed it in the same way that I enjoyed a movie like American History X, but it's not meant to be watched like most other movies. I found Roger Ebert's analysis of 2001 incredibly insightful and if you're scratching your head after you watch the movie, I recommend reading that. I don't think it's my favorite Kubrick film (that would go to The Shining probably, or the first half of Full Metal Jacket), but it's a movie worth watching for the score and visuals alone.
Watching a movie with an open-mind should be done for every movie imo. I think 2001's strangeness is quite overstated, the ending is indeed peculiar, but the beef of the movie, the HAL part, is imo incredible and easily enjoyable. That being said, as a movie that is both a blockbuster and experimental it is indeed almost unique. My second favorite Kubrick I guess, behind Barry Lindon. Also let's not stop our thematically ambitious directors at Kubrick please :p
Trainspotting is a strange movie. I would like to say that I enjoyed it, but that's not really how I felt watching it. It wasn't as depressing as Requiem for a Dream or as disturbing as some of the other movies I've seen, but it has a lot of dark humor and very off-putting scenes. Ewan McGregor turned in a great performance in this film, but it's still strange. I think I still need time to reflect on it though, haha.
