I really hope I am not the only one to think this, but I see the critics' gaze as extremely condescending, like civilized westerners pleasantly surprised by the depiction of their own image in the most anti-western country of the world. I like how critics casually refer to Simin and Nader as "middle-class," as if the maid and her husband are just one generation away from becoming like Simin..

Pros: + Show Spoiler + >They did a pretty great job in emulating the arena(the actual games) part of the story. It was action packed they followed the book pretty good and they was little to no boring part. It was kinda epic and i was not expecting it to be as epic as the book. >No more shaky cameras. It was hard to appreciate with shaky cameras. >According to my friends who watched it and never saw the first movie and read the book it was not hard to understand. They pretty much explained the mechanics of the story well. > The new gamemakers acting was impressive. Cons: + Show Spoiler + > What i loved from the whole franchise is the witty + emotional conversation that was well executed and perfectly timed in the book. The sad part is that i think the time of the movie is too short. So most of the beautiful scenes in the book was not well executed. It was kinda forced and sometimes skipped. >There was sometimes lack of explanation of the scenes and there was a lot of kissing in the movie that if one viewer did not read the book that person would be confused why did they fornicate. > The training part of the book was not covered not that it was any effect but i kinda looked forward on how they would portray it but this is just my opinion that was the short parts of it. > I think the peeta/katniss dynamic in book two was not well emphasised but it was still decent. > Caesar Flickerman was not as awesome as what he was on the first movie. After seeing the movie i am looking forward for the 3rd movie since the second movie is a huge improvement of the first. And i may just be complaining too much about the cons of the movie. And regarding Coldfusion he is right the entire hunger games logic doesnt fucking makes sense i suggest when you watch it turn of your brain.

Maybe, but its popularity has transcended that audience, which makes it interesting. Most of the females I meet my age really like it, including the smart and cool ones. And watching this particular thing that head-on tackles entertainment culture and class/income divide (the big additions compared to Battle Royale that give it a totally different feel and presence, tackling the outside culture rather than the focus just on the event) from within the huge market entertainment circle is fascinating. Plus instead of just being like, "oh kids these days" I think it's a lot more interesting and useful to see what sorts of culture they are absorbing--what's positive and negative about it, how the world is going to change because of it, etc.. And Hunger Games has a lot to appreciate, I see the appeal.

Rebellions don't really help demonstrate a point about social inequality.

![]() Blackfish (Documentary, Netflix) Holy shit. I watched The Cove when it came out and i was stunned and my eyes opened even more. This documentary did the same. Sickening and depressing.

I saw Nebraska by Alexander Payne. ![]() This was a pretty film, with lots of carefully framed portraits of the American midwest, its scenery, the families of the working poor and their desolate towns. The story is at best, charming, and at worst, superficial and aimless. I thought Payne was as close to a humanist as American cinema gets but this film really undermines his storytelling talents. Overall enjoyable but I have no idea why Bruce Dern got a Cannes award for his performance.

I have nothing against lesbians, but how this movie won cannes' awards blows my mind. There is absolutely no acting by Adèle Exarchopoulos, she's the same in real life... Yeah, this movie won because of political pressures. Make the LGBT win, absolutely disgusting.

Pretty solid film. Acting and script were both top notch, and the cinematography felt fairly creative. The characters are the most appealing part of this film. They're all very odd and interesting. I'm not sure if Christian Bale is wearing a fat suite. I really hope he is, but the fact that we've seen him go between insanely skinny to very ripped doesn't ease my fear that he put on a load of fat for this film.

I saw Cassavetes's "A Woman Under the Influence" for the first time. ![]() To avoid fawning over Cassavetes in the same manner as movie critics, I found two motifs particularly striking, the use of violence to enforce order, and the recurrent questioning of Mable's identity by her husband and herself. I saw this film as primarily about mental illness, the incompatibility between madness and society, and less so about marriage, love, gender roles, and whatever else. I can't remember another film that explores a similar theme as concisely. We are shown only the symptoms of something, but nothing is internalized by the characters. This was especially original to me.
