All I recall being mentioned in the show is that Jaime was the youngest Kingsguard ever, and they might have mentioned how long it's been since Robert's Rebellion, but I'm at work and can't find out right now =/ Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

Jaimie's in his mid 30's and was 17 when he killed the mad king I think.

thanks fellas. so did he kill the king at the start of robert's rebellion then? robert's rebellion was 17 years ago iirc

He killed him towards the end. Season 1 Ned talks about coming upon Jaime in the throne room shortly after he killed Aerys, and by that point the war was (mostly) done.

I don't know why some guys need(?) to defend GRRM's world as not sociopathic and dark and they try to bring up reminishing elements. Personally the whole dark and gritty protect-my-stuff-or-i'll-gut-you vibe is what has me glued on my screen.
And that's why I love Arya's progression. Someone hit it on the head couple pages ago, he said that the Arya ark is like the Brotherhood storyline from the Elder scrolls. Couldn't have said it better. I mean, she's just a child. A child that when goes to bed instead of sobbing or asking for deliverance, she's asking for the deaths of her enemies. Also she has killed already and there's the deathwish djinni(jacquen) plot in which she indulged to the "dark side". She's a far more darker character than Joffrey for example who's just a sick spoiled kid. /tribute mode off

As of now, in this tv show. She is the last Targaryan except that blind guy in the Night's Watch and he cant inherit anything because thats how the Night's watch rolls. Now Denerys says she her dragons will be her only children. Ergo even if she somehow manages to win the seven kingdoms she will sit around and be a good queen and totally not let petty stuff bring her down and it will be magical. And then she will die. And the Targaryan line will die. So there will be just 3 dragons who may or may not eat all humans because they look delicious and that is ti. What is the point of her going to Westeros again? Dragon king. + Show Spoiler +Dragon's frequently took over kingdoms as kings if their mother's were childless during the middle ages.

No it was pretty much the last thing that happened. After Robert had killed Rhaegar and defeated his army at the Trident, the war was all but over. But King's Landing was still not taken, so Tywin Lannister, seeing that Aerys could not win, pretended to come to his aid and was let into King's Landing with his army, who then proceeded to sack the city. It was around then that Jaimie killed him.

I heard a horrifying rumor yesterday that Jon Snow's mother is actually Leanna Stark. In the books (not a spoiler), Jon and Arya are the only Stark children that look like Ned. Perhaps Leanna died in childbirth.

Man everyone is so crazy about so called "spoilers" in this thread. Half of them aren't even.
This is the difference between a spoiler and non spoiler. I will use the star wars saga as an example, let's pretend not all of the original 3 are out yet.
THIS IS A SPOILER
Darth Vader is Lukes father.
THIS IS NOT A SPOILER
3000 years the old republic exsisted, and there were sith blah blah blah blah.
This thread has turned into people bitching about "spoilers" there is 0 discussion here. You can't even talk about events in Old westeros in this thread. Like cmon, that shit has 0 to do with anything currently going on in the show. So how is asking about the doom of valyria a spoiler at all in any way shape or form? Please, tell me. This thread is way to over modded. Can't anyone excersize an amount of self control, how about if you don't want to be spoiled, or know anything lore related. Don't come to this thread period.

Derp, ordered to kill a prisoner instead get self captured and of 3 of your comrades killed. Derp, let 20 pirates steal your castle. Double Derp let a two dealing liar who already betrayed your husband and crippled your son talk you into giving up the greatest soldier on the bad guy side for 2 girls who are useless. Triple Derp, seduced by some medic even though you are fighting at the very least a two front war and need your logistics train protected, made sure that all your nobles see that you are busy boning hot medic so that they question your judgment more so than they already do due to your moms derp. Quadriple Derp, have the power of life and death over any human being, family in deep shit due to derpy nature of their derptidue instead of killing the only two intelligent people in your enemies camp, Tyrion and Tywen, order the murder of a random torturer, a random-and-pretty-incompetent-minor-lord and a bunch of guards.
Yeah cause Jon definitely knew three of his comrades were gonna die if he didnt cut off the girls head Robb definitely should have known Theon was gonna backstab him Catlin Stark would definitely consider her two daughters 'useless' and not worth trading for Robb, when confronted with a hot nurse in his tent, would definitely be thinking about his logistics train An 8 year old girl would definitely have an acute understanding of the greater politics of the situation I'm afraid the only thing I see that's "derp" is your perception of human nature
And don't forget, Arya does have some affection for Tywin, after all he saved them from the torturer, saw that she was a bit smarter, and has genuine conversations with her. After your father dying, I'd imagine Arya would still find it pretty hard to kill off the one adult who was acknowledging your existence, regardless of him being the causation for your current troubles (which is arguable, since it's mostly his kids and grandkids that are messing with everything, I think it's clear that both he and tyrion would not have executed Ned Stark under the same circumstances that geoff or his mother had.)

I kinda see his point about asking about history, and if he goes to the other thread it's VERY likely he'll have events that haven't happened yet be spoiled. Thus I offer an alternative!
PM me. I'm confined to a desk for 9 hours a night and would gladdly discuss the show with people. If I don't know the answer I'll look it up for you (I've read the books, so I can't get accidentally spoiled by stuff like those who haven't). This way this thread stays "spoiler free" and people that want to know more about the history of the show get to hear it without fear of spoilers.

seriously, ive read all the books too but i dont feel the need to talk about them here. there's an entire other thread devoted entirely to that. it is so easy to understand why a person who hasnt read the books wants to enjoy this show with all the mystery that other people had reading the books, its hard for me to imagine why everyone's having a hard time with it. Why shouldnt people trying to enjoy the series have a place to talk about it? What a silly and rude suggestion to make.
