Still great series, I'll have to remember to bring to uni with me after this job-term so I can reread. i'm just generally pissed at robert jordan for letting the series degrade so far, if you're re-reading them you'll see what i mean! the first few books are really quite good, but he just keeps introducing characters! i can't remember which it was, but the last jordan i read had about 2 chapters on each subplot! aparently brandon sanderson is gonna finish the series off... have only read one of his so i can't say whether that's a good thing or not! imo shoulda got steven erikson to do it! martin is great, i've only read the first two, but i'm gonna get the 3rd soon... trying to pace myself so i don't have to wait for the books. on topic, so excited about this series, gonna have to watch it! edit: @[GiTM]-Ace, yeah! probably not worth reading the later ones imo! if i was a total fanboy i'd suggest switching to steven erikson... seriously, that guy is good. and releases books faster than yearly, he's a machine!

WHEEL OF TIME IS NOT FINISHED????????? should i just stop now im on book 4 only.. and yea i agree GRRM he definitely needs to finish these books. They hired another fantasy writer to finish the last book based on Jordan's notes. On July 22 2009 03:26 BisuBoi wrote: At the pace he's writing, it's going to take him 6-7 years per book. And the older he gets, the slower he gets... So you're looking at what, 2025 the series will finish? That would make him 75 yrs old. Yeah, there are some definite concerns there. And sers, the wait is getting ridiculous. It's been almost ten years since I've read any new material about most of the characters I like. Feast for Crows had everyone I didn't like, except for Tyrion. One of the major reasons why ADwD has been so delayed is a piece of the plot, referred to as 'the Meereenese knott', which has been troubling him for 4 years now. Hopefully he'll be able to write more straight forward once he's done with ADwD. Which hopefully will be pretty soon; this is what he wrote on June 22: "[...]for the first time in a very long while, I think I can see a glimmering that might just be a light at the end of the tunnel."

I actually thought the first 4-5 books sucked and it only started getting good around book 6 (maybe book 5, can't remember). I've still never read past book 8 or 9. On the bright side, the author currently finishing the series, Brandon Sanderson, is extremely good. I remember reading last year that HBO was putting the ASoIaF pilot up against a new King Arthur series. Considering that the BBC just made another shitty Merlin show, hopefully HBO will go with the original fantasy property and not rehash Camelot for the thousandth time.

After I finished wheel of time my next series was going to be The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. Now I dunno what to do haha

In other news, from WinterIsComing's blog: Namely production designer Gemma Jackson. Jackson's experience as a production designer includes some impressive work with John Adams (where she won an Emmy) and Finding Neverland (where she was nominated for an Oscar). Having someone of her caliber on board as production designer means Thrones' sets, costumes, props, etc. should look top-notch. i forget who was concerned over the costume design but this tidbit should remove any concerns. I think we can expect the sets and everything else to look amazing now.. this show is really starting to look good.. and HBO seems to be taking this pretty seriously, especially with the filming in Ireland/Tunisia along with the Sean Bean, the director, casting director, etc. Things are looking up for it becoming a real show

If you are a fan of the books and like board games, definitely check it out. A suprising amount of depth and strategy is required. I recommend playing with only four players because Pyke is completely overpowered and will absolutely destroy Lannister off the first turn.

Really sorry dude but the author of The Wheel of time is DEAD. Ya i know it sucks but you should at least finish the rest of the remaining books they are good. Its cool that they are getting someone to finish it off but it would be a different author and just would not be same i think. Also 5-8 kind of do suck but after that it picks back up and gets really really interesting so just read through them really fast to get to the good ones. P.S. sry for double posting XD

And having "trouble" with a part of the story which causes a 4 yr delay? Yeah lol. More like he's making dough so he isn't motivated to solve the problem and move on. I can guarantee you, if he was a hungry young writer that problem would have been solved in a few weeks of all-nighters. This kind of crap always happens when a series gets popular. Suddenly it's not about a great series anymore, it's about a great money maker.

Anyone tried playing the "A Game of Thrones" board game? It is quite good, apart from some balancing problems. Definitely a cut above games like Risk. The board game is what got me into this series actually. If you are a fan of the books and like board games, definitely check it out. A suprising amount of depth and strategy is required. I recommend playing with only four players because Pyke is completely overpowered and will absolutely destroy Lannister off the first turn. Me and a group of friends played about 15games of it. After the first 2 we balanced out Greyjoy by switching him with Tyrell on the King's court ladder which takes away his +1 march and gives Tyrell the mobility to not be a total suckage. Also if you don't want to make the game all about sea control buy the Clash of kings expansion and add the ports. If you don't want to then just make homemade ports and play with them since it brings the necessary nerf to the uber mobility that ships provide you with.
