My theory on this is that the producers know, more or less, that Game of Thrones is on a pretty real clock. They'll be outrageously lucky to get 7 seasons from HBO (it'll never happen,) and it is more likely that this show will go down the same road as other big budget period pieces like Rome and Deadwood. It's just so expensive to produce this show that the producers will probably merge the narratives of A Clash of Kings and a Storm of Swords. They'll try to tell as much of the story as they can in the time they have.

King Stannis declared himself as such during the first season of the TV show, A Game of Thrones, if you bothered to even watch it.

If you don't think to hard, I'm sure you can come up with some. Well, I think Game of Thrones is great. It really is, I'm not disparaging its quality. But not many shows make it to seven seasons and those shows are usually sitcom style shows. Game of Thrones is a PRODUCTION. They have to shoot outdoors and on location. They need extras and have tons of contracts for tons of characters. They even need CGI... Look, I'd love for it to go 7 seasons but I don't think it will. I think Sopranos was the last scripted HBO 1-hour drama to go 7 seasons but Oz, Deadwood, Rome, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Big Love all ended before that. Some of those shows was because of showrunner's intent: The Wire and Six Feet Under but Game of Thrones is more like Deadwood and Rome. And God knows those shows ended too soon. Anyways, I may be wrong, and I'll be happy to be wrong.

Fact is shows like this sell pretty well on DVD, while sitcoms tend to be sold into syndication better. Will this show go 7 seasons? Nah most likely not. Will it get to tell the story up till the end ASOS(the third book), god i hope so. Getting through that book would make the most sense, as it ends the least cliffhangerish and offers ample conclusions to some story arcs. At the end of the day, as an avid fan of the book series, I'm glad for every season of this show that gets made.
