Well, technically he did. He was born George R. Martin and added the second R. at age 13. But the larger point is that an author gets to call themselves whatever they want. Even if they stick with their legal name, there's quite a bit of flexibility. Middle names can be used or omitted as desired, abbreviated or kept at full length. Hell, they can even be used as first names. There's obviously an intentionality to Martin's choice of moniker; and there's nothing wrong with that. The guy is pretty open about trying to carry on Tolkien's legacy in the face of all watered-down nonsense floating about. | ||
