Just like we have Gai instead of Rock Lee right now, they´re identical). In DBZ you at least had a reason for the escalation of power. Goku is in the infinite time chamber, gotta stall the villain until he is finished. Or stalling time until Trunks/Goten can use Fusion again. Cell and Buu had pretty explicite power jumps, requiring likewise power jumps from the good guys. It had structure to it. In Naruto I get the feeling that at the start of the fight and the end of the fight everyone has the same power level. It just takes forever for no adequate reason. it goes like this: Naruto Sucks Sasuke makes Naruto jealous Naruto gets stronger than Sasuke Sasuke Leaves Naruto gets stronger (this is were it becomes rinse and repeat..) Bad guy appears thats stronger than Naruto Naruto Gets stronger Beats bad guy A stronger bad guy appears wash out shampoo repeat The problem isn't that formula. It's a lack of consistency with no real explained powerups. The 9 tails just keeps drawing infinite power. Madara could defeat 5(!) hokages at once and barely touch his own chakra pool apparently. The hokages were supposed to be nigh on the strongest warriors of the village, they shouldn't be useless by any means... Thats what im saying. Its all about Naruto. It doesnt matter who dies, who was stronger than who, or who can do what. Eventually, Naruto is going to be stronger, smarter, and faster than anyone. The way the story has been so far, Madara should have already won the war. But of course, the 9 tails has "hidden" abilities. I think its more of a plot hole issue as alot of random abilities are starting to spring forward now that shit is hitting the fan,.

Madara is an edo tensei and has infiite chakra, near unlimited stamina and regen, it's why he spams high level jutsu all the time. The 9 tails is supposed to have near infinite chakra even when cut in half it still has to be massive so no it's not inconsistency you can call it bad writing if you want but it's not inconsistent.

Honestly at least the manga does well on showing how him gaining those power. Problem lies when one ultra character, madara, appears and we honestly need someone to even it up a little.

The point is that naruto knows only 2 jutsus... shadow clones and Rasengan, only the number/size increase from time to time and got a different names. So there is no strategic battles anymore, only him tricking the opponent with the same trick over and over again and fire a deathball at him

How to fix this broken story:
Kishi should kill naruto and focus the story to Uchiha Madara for him to become the main character where he goes on a power trip and eventually kills everyone in 1v1s. Like prove a philosophical question on life like: "If I kill everyone, would that make me the strongest." And end the manga with a edo Madara laughing maniacally above the mountain of corpse. He finds out everyone's souls are in heaven to he edo tensei's every person and then dumps them into the shinigami's belly in order to ultimately defeat the world and have perfect peace

Regarding the new abilities, the issue is a lack of sufficient foreshadowing...It's okay if he wants to introduce new abilities (which are the heart of this story), but he's not doing so adequately, which makes them feel contrived. You have to make sure and build up to introduction, not provide an explanation AFTER you introduce the ability (though a full one doesn't hurt).

It just takes forever for no adequate reason. it goes like this: Naruto Sucks Sasuke makes Naruto jealous Naruto gets stronger than Sasuke Sasuke Leaves Naruto gets stronger (this is were it becomes rinse and repeat..) Bad guy appears thats stronger than Naruto Naruto Gets stronger Beats bad guy A stronger bad guy appears wash out shampoo repeat Would you prefer naruto if: Naruto just doesn't learn anything and we stay at low level ninjitsu for years, doing missions that don't matter at all? Honestly at least the manga does well on showing how him gaining those power. Problem lies when one ultra character, madara, appears and we honestly need someone to even it up a little. The point is that naruto knows only 2 jutsus... shadow clones and Rasengan, only the number/size increase from time to time and got a different names. So there is no strategic battles anymore, only him tricking the opponent with the same trick over and over again and fire a deathball at him and summoning jutsu and Sage mode and the RasenShuriken and the BijuuDama He went into sage mode essentially just to make more clones, more rasengans, and bigger rasengans. The rasenshuriken is just a bigger rasengan that can be thrown. It's like the most boring development throughout the whole manga.

This fight is basically Dragonball Z/GT at the end, where overpowerd things throw giagantic "deathballs" at each other, even gai`s so powerfull "gate technique" seemed like a little fly and the kyuubi just "energizes" everyone so they can use another ultimate justu... just waiting for a fungal randomly appearing out of no where... Holy shit do you realize just how powerful the Ten-Tails is? Kurama told us that it is essentially a god on earth that can split oceans, destroy continents, and pretty much fuck up everything. The way you describe these "deathballs" tells me you never even read Naruto before. Bla bla bla. The Kyuubi got introduced as a monster that destroys mountains on accident by wiggling his tails. That didn´t cause the pre timeskip stories to be all about energy blasts, even when naruto fought against gaara/the ichibi. The tail beasts being like natural disasters was all fine and well until Kishi decided to make them characters by giving them personalities. The ichibi was basically a monster that liked to destroy and kill stuff and was kinda like a Godzilla battle. But now we have Godzilla, KingKong, Mechagodzilla, Mothra etc etc. talking and having character development, even being reasoned with. At the point where the giant monsters can form allegiances it takes away from their menacingness. But worst of all, turning the tailbeasts into characters makes them inexpendable. You can´t just defeat or kill one of them anymore. Even if the 8tails seems to be all but superfluous(It´s a giant beast, just like the kyuubi. It looks a little different, but is otherwise the same. Just like we have Gai instead of Rock Lee right now, they´re identical). In DBZ you at least had a reason for the escalation of power. Goku is in the infinite time chamber, gotta stall the villain until he is finished. Or stalling time until Trunks/Goten can use Fusion again. If anyone hasn't been watching the anime, I recommend watching Jiraya vs Pain up until Naruto vs Pain. That was the best part of the whole anime for me.

I don't know why ppl expect a normal ninja fight in a battle between tailed beasts. I also don't know how people failed to predict that Naruto would eventually become so powerful. It was obvious when we first saw the 8-tails. Hell, it was obvious when we first saw Naruto get 1 tail.
If anything, I'm surprised Naruto and Sasuke haven't become more powerful. They still pale in comparison to beings like Madara, the 1st Hokage, and the 10-tails. Hell, even Kabuto and Itachi seem to be stronger than Sasuke. My prediction was that eventually, Naruto and Sasuke would become the two most powerful ninjas in the history of the world.
Also, I don't understand why people complain that certain ninjas have been made "obsolete". That's nothing new. There have always been ninjas who were stronger than many other ninjas combined. Hell, arguably the biggest plot driver in this entire show is Itachi single-handedly murdering the feared Uchiha clan in his teens. The only thing that makes Naruto now different from Naruto in the past is that we're focusing on the strong people instead of the weak ones.
