If you look to the post with the YouTube clip you'll see that this was the style of the entire episode. I didn't find the episode to be actually "bad" just completely bizarre, it was like nothing seen in any other episode. I really enjoy the episodes where the animation is... loose, almost sketchy, which is the same style this episode except they added a bunch of really bizarre facial expressions and some pretty comical stunts (the nailing into the ground thing had me laughing) At the very least it gives me a good reason to keep watching the anime despite having first read the manga.

the animation in this new episode is very similar to the old 133. 2minutes onwards

"This child won't live a minute longer" is so not as cool as "This child will die at the ripe age of one minute".

The roadrunner bit was hilarious. So was the part where the fox slammed his head 3 times with the pillar of rock, then he asked "Do you hate me?" Great stuff. (The animation style of the faces.. reminds me of that terribad SFIV anime one-shot thing)

And then I read the Manga....which like....blew my mind. Though I miss the old days of just cruel, plain old simple violence, I'm really liking how there seems to be cliffhangers that leave viewers wanting more. I wish I could listen/read Japanese....*sigh*

Its funny how good the game looks compared to the anime though. Anime was subpar, maybe it was the quality that I watched though, and the manga was eh. 2/5 for both.

Also the battle was quite weird, I don't remember it from the manga but it was too overdone. It was shown that the Pain bodies aren't that strong and Naruto destroyed several of them with ease. But suddenly the last Pain body somehow has incredible speed and godly endurance, fighting hand to hand with Nine-Tails cloak. Orochimaru needed his immortal-snake-style and the invincible sword to be able to fight off the Nine-Tails, but still he mostly fought from range. It shouldn't be possible for Pain to melee the Nine-Tails. The last scene with the Vegeta-DBZ-style barrage of energy attacks and Pain repelling them all was too ridiculous. What happened to 5-second delay between usages of his technique? Overall though, I regret reading the manga and recommend just watching the anime. The anime tries to make things more believable, since they have to animate it, whereas the manga has moments where you're just like "wtf???" Plus the anime makes the fights more epic.

Watch that video a few posts up, I dont know if the animation of these episodes were done by a seperate team or not, but the art is definitely very different in these fast paced fights. I dont know about you, but I prefer reading the manga and watching the anime every week. You get to know whats going on in the latest chapters and at the same time also watch episodes of what you read months ago.

(I do agree that it was all over the top and unrealistic to the storyline though.. but maybe pain is just stronger when he's only controlling 1 guy)
