Whiplash not winning best adapted screenplay is an absolute travesty...

Second only to the lack of Nightcrawler nominations

Well, at least J.K. Simmons won tonight, he fucking killed it in Whiplash and deserved it so much.

Much like everyone else here though I am wondering what happened to Nightcrawler, literally saw nothing for it....and it was definitely one of the best movies last year. Maybe this is why I don't pay much attention to these award shows.

I think we'll look back at the 2015 nominees and realize it was a pretty weak crop. Probably the worst batch since 2011 when The Artist won.

Havent seen all the films, but seems pretty odd nominations.

No mention of Edge of Tomorrow at all. Lego Movie didnt get nomiated for best animated (the fuck?)

Gone Girl and Interstellar shoulda been up for best picture.

What's wrong with The Artist?

What's wrong with The Artist?

I think he meant the batch was low quality the year the artist won, not that the artist was bad itself necessarily

That was the year they ignored stuff like Drive and Take Shelter, and threw in crap like War Horse. Still a weak year overall.

I don't think 2014 was a weak year for films at all though. Birdman would've won over plenty of other years' picks.

Both were locks for winning. Julianne Moore is a terrific actress when she doesn't over-act, and Patricia Arquette is always top-notch. I would've given it to Cotillard but Moore winning isn't too farfetched.

Pretty straightforward winners here, glad American Sniper didn't get major wins based solely off the subject matter. Birdman was amazing and a cinematographic masterpiece, so I'm cool with that.

Most satisfying win for me is Redmayne for Best Actor, dude absolutely represented Hawking in that film, and that is something so stunningly gripping to watch.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

Intrestingly, both oscar winning lead actor and actresses were also in very poor films the same year. Definitive proof that the Academy can judge an actor's performance for the film they are nominated rather than collectively.

Happy that Eddie Redmayne got best actor. His performance in The Theory of Everything was stunning.

It's not just that Redmayne was in a poor film.. I don't think it's unfair to say he was absolutely putrid garbage in Jupiter Ascending. It was physically upsetting to listen to his character (no hyperbole). Worst part of a bad film. Wonder what went wrong... Probably just phoning it in for a movie he knew sucked.

Julianne Moore was quite good in THG at least, unless you're talking about a different movie.

Not like the movies were particularly amazing for the oscars this time round anyway.
