Also, I finished Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. It's one of the books that we're going to be reading for our sci-fi class. It was....okay I guess. There were parts that were really good and other parts that were boring. The whole thing with the triffids felt....kind of gimicky to be honest and I didn't really like that component very much. All in all, it's still a decently solid read, but not something I'd happily go back to a few years down the line. Asimov's Foundation and Empire is another thing we're going to be reading in the class so I'm psyched for that. I have to read Foundation first though.

Haven't read an awful lot. Rereading Stanislaw Lem's GOLEM XIV and read 5 pages from Derrida about "Apocalyptic Thought" or something. Derrida is such an asshole, I wonder how many of his books were just conceived as some sort of ironic joke.

The writing is beautiful, even more beautiful than in his other masterpieces like Blindness and The Gospel According to Jesus Christ, there is not a single metaphor that feels forced, the story is deeply human and moving and has a social conscience, and all the characters feel alive, especially the two main ones and Bartolomeu de Gusmão, who is by the way one of history's most interesting men(go read his wikipedia page). If I had to choose one book of Saramago to read for the rest my life, this would be it. No wonder it's his most celebrated work in the anglophone world. welp. >__> guess I know what I"m buying next also I finished Foundation. I really like it. I enjoyed the fact that it was a sci-fi epic but it was written from the perspective of a society that had little idea about any of the gadgets that they were working with. A lot of the real world parallels were also were super cool. @_@

Also finished Wilhem Meister, which was cool during the first 6 book, including the memoirs of the pietist aunt, but the last two books were really too much of Goethe's ideas on life and deus ex machina's for my liking. I understand why German have spent their time rewriting this, because it could have been so much better... Finally read The Three Stigmatas of Palmer Eldritch, and my mind is blown. Thanks guys, it's up there with Ubik. I have a problem with Barney's last packet of cigarettes btw, not sure why. Edit : Started Vom Kriege, it rules so far. Theory as what it should be. Also Clausewitz clearly read Kant <3
