I just listened through the death grips albums for the first time

how can something like this be so catchy
it's hard to single out a song because all of them are equally insane lol

I wrote a thing about Nothing Was The Same. Link in my signature but basically

- disappointing bc it doesnt live up to his potential
- had some tracks that are so good but then there's songs like "worst behavior"
- too much tryna rap like the mixtape days, but it ends up poorly. He can rap well (underground kings, the ride, the calm, and probs plenty of examples in older albums) and it all falls flat
- not enough thematic focus. The girl and family songs are p gud but then there's shit about him spending a ton of money and its all meaningless bc theres no personal investment in it by him, or no useful theme

Dunno. Im a little skewed bc i like concept albums too much

This whole thing reminds me of how disappointing Mchg is compared to... Anything before it. But ya ya old shit, old albums

NWTS was really not good in my opinion.

Its says a lot about Drake's rapping on the album that the best song to me was Hold On, We're Going Home.

His lyrics are just bad to me, and not just on a technical rapping level (though they are bad there too). The word play is sparse and basic, the arrogance just feels lame like he's trying to compensate for something. And don't even get me started on the amount of silly, forced wu tang references. Not even people who still listen to Capoddona still listen to Capoddona.

I think 3 tracks on NWTS are good. Pound Cake with Jay Z - All Me and Tuscan Leather i liked the bars in that song kept the flow going well, the rest was just average drake imo.
Still no doubt he is probably the most popular in the game atm though which is sad. Lets hope Eminem brings the game back to the dizzy heights of the past when he drops his.

Well, I have my doubts whether MMLP2 is gonna be that great, I haven't been properly impressed with an eminem album in like 11 years, which makes me sad.

That being said i was impressed by relapse thought that had some good tracks on, but his verses on some of the songs he has been on in the past 2 years have been good. Also loving the 2 songs we have got from already, think the rap is back to it's best.

He's undoubtedly still got the ability to construct great verses, thats for sure, he almost managed to get even more technically skilled as the years have gone on. I just dunno if he knows how to really put together an album anymore.

But i cannot wait! Do you listen to Radio 1xtra by the way MCDayC? It my favourite station for the past 1year, the DJs and the tunes they play so nice. HipHop and RAP ALLL DAYY ERRRDAY :d

Pound cake and all me aren't too bad either. But yeah it was a lot of average drake that you hear in features but its disappointing on his own album

Also it sux cause he can rap... 5am in toronto shoulda been on the album

Liquid Swords is definitely my favorite Wu album, RZA and GZA are just so incredibly on point on there.

As for Radio 1xtra, I do listen occasionally, I like some of the interviews they do as well. Radio though just isn't quite my thing, I'm pretty fussy about listening to albums all the way through.

I have been listening tyler recently. He definitely is one of the best in recent years. Just listened his 'Wolf' album, really liking it, not an improvement over 'Goblin', but musically more enjoyable for sure.

It's pretty cool that he in addition to writing the words, produces the songs as well.

I have high hopes for Eminem's new Marshal Mathers, but then again I hotly anticipated his "Crack a bottle" single when it released. My friend and I listened for about 45sec, looked at eachother, practically cried, and switched it off. <3 Em though. Idk if you can get how much of a cultural and musical sensation he was unless you were cognizant in 1998-2000 or so (older).

MMLP2 will replace Yeezus for best (rap?) album of 2013

and it's been a good year for music
and Yeezus is bangin

How do you guys feel about the new Danny Brown record? I think it just got officially released today but I know its been leaked for at least a week. I think there are some really good tracks on there but I feel like the whole molly/drug thing is starting to get stale. He shows the ability to rap about real shit though.. I dunno I guess I just liked XXX so much that it set my expectations really high. I do like the album as a whole though
