his youthful appearance in the 1st season really only lasted that 1 season. from the second season onwards he was an old man

He was a rising young buck in season 1 (the youngest senior partner ever) and became a seasoned veteran in all the other seasons. I think it was both to rein in his credibility and to avoid aging out Jessica too much. The show has never known whether to treat him as a serial womanizer or a steadfast and committed man at home. It's not clear which is cooler, especially among the cross-demographic of people in their 30s. They threw out avoiding married woman as part of his code of honor and never brought that up again, probably to avoid the reality that he would be banging every associate and hot secretary sooner or later. The worst is his style as a lawyer. He started off as a cool negotiator who always found a way to break tough impasses and bring people together for a win-win. Now he's a bull in a china shop who steamrolls the hopes and dreams of lesser mortals by shouting at them and browbeating them.

i do agree on how his character has changed over the seasons though. the first season's harvey was a guy who could get anything he wanted by just opening his mouth whereas the seasons after showed him to have much more emotion (contrary to harvey saying he doesnt get emotional in season 1)
