To rephrase it: you should never be defensive about anything; instead you should always rather try to be passionate about whatever you're being called out on for, because the moment you're defensive, you're suddenly not talking about how awesome that something is. It is harder to insult (without making oneself look bad anyway) someone who truly seems to be honestly passionate, and it can make the skeptics reconsider taking a closer look themselves before further judgement. A lot of the success stories within this thread are good examples of this working. | ||

I think this show is probably only so popular because its controversial. So people talk about it because its edgy and receives a lot of negative and positive attention. This is the Internet equivalent of being a hipster. | ||

Ofc some fans greatly exaggerate because it ticks people off, fans of MLP are still people and people are very often annoying. But for the most part it comes from a good place, and tbh I think this IS the best cartoon ive ever seen or at least up there in terms of enjoyment and ive seen all the other ones folks rave about, like spongebob squarepants and powerpuff girls / fairly odd parents and although I love those shows and have watched episodes of them very recently MLP is at least on par with them in the show itself, if not better (imo it is but that would exaggerating fanboy in the eyes of many gotta give a little :p) Then you add the community and it becomes a real beauty, I would not trade it for anything with the large amount of art and stories written by folks who I would never even know exist and those newly inspired from MLP, the interactive members of the production team on the show, and all around decent mannered folks in the large majority with which to discuss the show with (like the lovely people in this thread <3) All around not bad for a fandom that was inspired from the hellhole that is 4chan, I've only been on 4chan a couple times in my life and never the infamous boards so folks with the assumption that followers of the show are all trying to be cool kids like those on 4chan are gravely mistaken. now time to go hum giggle at the ghostly for the rest of the day, if there is ever a more catchy song in season 2 I may weep out of joyful madness. *edit* speaking of cartoons definately in my top 2 cartoons of all time is the Batman animated series, so baller that show. | ||

Almost everybody is annoying about something that others don't like. For example, Starcraft. I guarantee you a great number of people on this site exaggerate and promote Starcraft to all their friends who don't care. All of my friends have a band, or a movie, or a show that they proclaim to be the "best ever" but I find just meh. People in general love to love something that makes them unique. | ||

the author obviously has a very deep understanding of the characters in the show, and presents their reactions to the situations that they find themselves in such a way that you can imagine it perfectly before your very eyes and keeps everyone very much in character even in situations that do not present themselves in the TV episodes. At the same time the original characters and personalities created by the other fit the fabric of the story very well, overall I urge any fan of the show to read it. If you're ever only gonna read 1 fanfiction, read Past Sins | ||
