Started off so great... but then it escalated too quickly. Seriously felt like the first half accomplishment did not equal the same as becoming an alicorn. Honestly, I would rather this have been a series finale in which the mane6 go their separate ways or something. Didn't like the episode too much.

I'm a wee bit torn on the episode. On a positive side, I felt really happy and emotional through the entire thing which is usually how I feel during a REALLY good MLP and I kind of think Alicorn Twilight is cool (don't know why so many people deplore the idea). On the bad side though, I felt like there wasn't any plot development, the transformation was entirely forced, and normally at the end of a season something crazy (bad) happens and so it feels like I NEED to be around when the next season starts. For this finale, it seemed more like a series finale where everything was all said and done, and if I didn't know there was going to be a s4 I'd be a little upset that the show had ended so cheaply.
Even so, I thought it was a pretty good episode.

i think this episode was fine, but things really depend on where they go from here in season 4. like now that twilight is an alicorn maybe they could have like real bad guys and mega adventures and stuff and now she has all these new responsibilities to fight the forces of darkness! or they could do something entirely different, who knows. the point is that while it's weird for twilight to be an alicorn now, what really matters is what they do with it going forwards.

I was extremely disappointed that it was so short and fast and one 22 minute episode, but I have to admit it was pretty fucking baller in my opinion that Twilight is now an alicorn. Overall all the episode itself wasn't great, but I'm pretty excited about Twilight being an alicorn/princess.

Good episode, a little too lacking in content though, hopefully season 4 will be epic!

But not as a normal episode.

As a musical. Also in a way, not knowing that there is now a season 4 coming, this episode works really well as a big "goodbye" episode, wrapping up the series and ending it with a big bang.

Of course, now that we know there's a new season coming, it's a little out of place. Something cool would be that the "part 1 of 3" thing means the we have 2 prequels in the works that set up this episode.

Really interesting and different episode. I've been thinking that this season hasn't had that many songs that I liked. Season 2 was amazing musically but in Season 3 I only really liked the Failure Song. And wow... it's like they were holding back on the music this entire season just for this episode!

This is the first season that I followed as the episodes were being released, so I dunno how it was like the previous seasons but I'm not a big fan of how much info they release before an episode airs. So I got the big moment spoiled, but I've learned my lesson; avoid this thread and any pony related websites except right after an episode gets aired, though I saw the Twilight alicorn pic before even the previous episode so maybe I should take it one step further and just not visit pony webpages/forums until the season ends.

Back to the episode, I think it would have been a satisfying conclusion to the series. The alicorn symbolizes unity, that different species can coexist and cooperate. Celestia's existence is proof that earth ponies, pegasi and unicorns can all work together. At the beginning of the series, Twilight heads off to Ponyville to learn about friendship, and a lot of the conflicts were based around this idea of helping others, and receiving help from others. Twilight becoming an alicorn means that she gets it, that she understands friendship and has achieved what she set out to do originally. If I didn't know a season 4 was coming, I would have been satisfied with this ending.

Even if, in a future episode, she loses her wings, she doesn't just unlearn everything she knows about friendship. She has already learned the beauty of friendship and proved that she's a worthy princess. Losing her wings does not undo anything that happens in this episode or make her any less qualified as a princess. It would bother me if it does as that would go against the theme of the show (she's not worthy of the throne because she doesn't have pegasus attributes).
