So much packed into 22 minutes; the pacing was just brilliant.

+ Show Spoiler +That season 3 finale was absolutely horrible.
It lacked the good story telling elements that make the show good. The whole episode was filled with pointless singing that didn't add anything to the entertainment. The songs felt more like a filler, and this episode didn't need fillers. They should have spent more time on making this transformation meaningful.
It was a bit too obvious that the only purpose of this episode was to sell the toy. This ruins the show for me.

+ Show Spoiler [The Good] +Honestly, most of the episode felt like the Cutie Mark Chronicles, except with adults and almost fully musical. Anybody who knows me knows my opinion on this sort of thing. I'm also glad this is basically part 1 of a 3 part series. Best case scenario: S4E2 concludes with some permanent way of removing her wings.
Also, the Celestia solo, as well as almost every part of this episode, was really well-timed, well-executed, and overall fucking fantastic. They made the absolute best of episode's terrible premise, which I had hoped to see from Larson.

+ Show Spoiler +I liked it. It wasn't super awesometastic, but it was fine Maybe a little too much singing, but the songs were all good. Twilight didn't seem that different after becoming an alicorn, of course we will have to see how this will develop, but I am pretty optmistic for season 4. I shall use liquid pride from now on, makes total sense on this website

The musical made the pacing seem better, but it lacked a lot of development; The whole part of twilight becoming an alicorn 2/3rds into the episode was too quick. Also, I hate that twilight flew on the ending of the episode. She just got her wings damnit! Still, this episode was great. I love straight-mane pinky, and we had our fair share of gags.
Let the pony drought begin.
