No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.
Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers. |
+ Show Spoiler +Author is Merriwether Williams (Mare do well) so still a new author. I actually saw that cheesy end coming and no I didn't like the ending. I also don't like these "put main characters in a past scenario" episodes of any show, it's just an overused chliché. But to be fair the rest was of the episode was pretty good. People are a bit too critical towards her I think.

+ Show Spoiler +I think it would've been better as a 2 parter also; But overall it was pretty enjoyable, and really guys, you can't expect to be razzledazzled every single week, some episodes aren't going to move things along, and christmas episodes for most shows tend to be that way. Anyways, still helped the canon of early pony-times a lot.

Also, seeing no alicorns in any of the episode, then having a flag at the end with two of them depicted? I don't know.. + Show Spoiler +Most plays about the founding of a nation use a modern flag, just because it's a symbol that everyone will associate with that country.
Regarding the alicorns+Discord, there are several possibilities so long as you keep in mind it's a play and isn't necessarily accurate. Celestia could've made sure to keep mentions of their involvement out of it as to preach the message of harmony vs "Come to me with your problems," or it just could've happened after Equestria's founding.

this episode will be pretty heavy so here are my thoughts as i watch this episode. + Show Spoiler +right off the start in excited, the mane 6 is all their and they are going to canterlot, pony road trips gets me pumped. ditzy doo was super easy to spot this episode. so far its pretty good, mane 6 action backstage is putting a smile on my face. this is going to swap like 100000 fics man, incoming princess platinum, commander hurricain and Councillor pudding head fics lol. woha holy shit those blizzard ponies look badass, perhaps they are like pony pagan gods or spirits, might be cool.
Pegasuses are confirmed as the warriors of the pony tribes by rainbowdash, this has been part of my head canon for a while now, cool that is confirmed now.
Pegasuses willing to conquer land unicorns are racist
equestria and the old land are connected by land, it seems like they had to cross a mountain range. the blizzard ponies are explained, that is actually really cool man, also the starswirl the bearded was cool.
fan fics of the ponies going cave spelunking to find that original burning heart of friendship are now guaranteed. oh wait its just floating over canterlot for some reason, that's lame.
well that was a solid episode mane six action was fun and it was really cool learning about the history. The only thing that urked me about this episode was there was not mention of princess celestia's history felt like we got ripped off.

+ Show Spoiler +Chancellor Pinkie was the Best... Possible.... Thing. Great episode. Then again I watch every episode drunk when I get home after a weekend out, and usually revise my view later in the week. But for now, I love it!

+ Show Spoiler +I very much liked it, up until the end The moral of the story was very predictable and very un-subtle. Moreover, those 'monsters that feed on hatred' are unsuitable plot devices in my opinion. I'd rather they fought the cold itself; uniting against an enemy who does not have a face, and isn't based on their friction between tribes. But the rest was nice. Spike is a good narrator, and i found it funny that the mane six got to keep their own personalities when portraying the ponies of ancient times.
|
+ Show Spoiler +I liked the episode a lot, just cause it used all six ponies. I love episodes where all ponies are used, and these episodes just seem "fresh" to me. The end was, of course, very cliché, but I don't mind, cause you know what? Christmas is all about traditions. Gotta respect the traditions, and I laughed a few times at Pinkie for being pinkie. Nice break from studying, no need to think at all, just relaxing in general. I'll come back and hang out in IRC more starting on monday, cya ponies then!

+ Show Spoiler +I honestly really liked this episode; one of my favorites for S2 so far I think. It probably helps that I didn't read the plot synopsis, so I wasn't expecting any Celestia/Luna/Discord. Also what ZealotKiller said; I think episodes with all of the Mane 6 are easily, easily my favorite - they complement each other so well.

Lol I do this myself a lot. That's actually how I got into the show. It then slowly made it's way into my day-programm.

I quite liked the episode! + Show Spoiler +I agree it did get a bit slow towards the end. However ending in a song is never that bad tbh. Only thing I'm kinda irked about (like everyone else) is no mention of Celestia & Luna, pity. Otherwise I was actually very entertained by Hurricanedash and Puddingpie.
As an afterthought, I really like the zoomed out view of the primary audience room in Canterlot. That place is MUCH larger than the other episodes made me think it was.

Awesome Episode!
+ Show Spoiler + - dont read Spoilers guys. It is not hard. - Chancellor Puddinghead is the best. Very funny. Did the comedy part of the episode alone and well enough. AJ was the perfect serious counterpart. - I loved how they were fighting over a stupid rock in the cave. - Seeing the end come is not that bad for me. I want them to rather do it like this and execute it well than to have them make a nonsensical surprise twist. In fact the obviousness can easily be seen as a part of the storyline. The leaders were so caught up in their hatred that they didn't see the obvious.

Loved the new episode + Show Spoiler + -first off, i see this totally flipping the fandom on its head. Incoming wave of history fanfics. -loved how they switched between showing the play on stage and in like a, normal way (idk how to say it). -tons of great dialogue, story was great, --"THINK INSIDE A CHIMNEY" I died at that line. --what i dont understand is where did the alicorns go in all of this. My speculation is that either the Alicrons did not interact with the ponies directly during this time, (which means Starswirled the Bearded is pretty ancient), the Alicorns did not show up to Equestria until later, or Celestia is actually hiding something and doesn't want the ponies to know about it.
Anyways, great episode overall. Awesome way to start off my winter break. And the new song is good too.

I would say it like this: They switched between a play ambience and a movie style ambience.

+ Show Spoiler + At the beginning of the play, Spike states that happened was "long before the peaceful rule of Celestia". Also, it is said in the beginning that the Unicorns brought forth Day and Night, not the Alicorns. So, when you take out strange conspiracy theories, this only leaves them arriving later through whatever means as an explanation. Maybe as a symbol of unity between the tribes, or something like that.

+ Show Spoiler +This episode seems to be love or hate it I guess from reading the posts here. I loved it, it had a lot of funny moments, I would say its comedy was its strong point. I didn't hate the cliche/cheesy story, I mean its a show about Friendship, so I wasn't bothered about a cheesy friendship story. The first few minutes of the episode wern't too good in my opinion, the Fluttershy scream joke and the I spy thing felt forced, but the rest of the episode was really enjoyable and funny. 9 wingboners out of 10! (Also, Rainbow Dash was frozen with one )

+ Show Spoiler +So if they are but a symbol of their unity, Does that imply that the alicorns are but a product of pony imagination? Sort of like Carl Saberhagen's Book of Swords series, where the gods are nothing but the product of human imagination, but the humans just don't realize that. Still, leaves a lot to speculate over. (and a lot of fanfic fodder XD). hey which reminds me, celestia didn't show up in this episode.

Okay, here are my two cents about the pony timeline from my vague memory of things
+ Show Spoiler +Since the newest episodes seems to have stirred up a lot of "How is the timeline again?" for people, let me see if I can straighten something out, or hey, maybe I am completely wrong ^^
Either way, to me it is basically like this. The newest episode where they play out the ancient story of the three tribes, THAT is the oldest piece of history. "But I thought celestia brought harmony to the ponies who lived in chaos?" True, which is why the next piece would be Discord, and then the history part you see in the earliest episodes~ makes sense? does to me~ The ponies managed to get along on their own, then an evil guy showed up and created chaos, then Celestia and Luna showed up with the elements of harmony and brought back order. The question to me is more, where did the Alicorns come from.

It might be that Starswirl(considering how ancient he apparently is) created the alicorns from it during Discord's rule, which would presumably explain why they discovered the Elements: they were actually born from harmony itself.
Now then, have some LyraBon spoilers: + Show Spoiler +

+ Show Spoiler +I do like the episode, if only because it has a ton of random Pinkie moments. Unfortunately it kind of fell apart the further it got. But it seems like shaky writing is what we can expect in Merriwether Williams' episodes.
