Probably unintentional as with many of the supposed S1 "references"

Easily the worst episode of the season. Let's accentuate RD's worst trait and get that point across in the first 5 minutes, and then spend the next 15 letting her "friends" humiliate her. What? This was a good idea? That's the lesson?

I am disappoint. RD's probably my least favorite pony in the first place, now 2 straight episodes centered around her. First one I really enjoyed for what it was. Second one -- not so much.

One redeeming fact -- Darkwing Mare has been born. My body is ready for the fanart.

I don't think they were over exaggerated, personally. Her competition with Maredowell was pretty consistent with how she acted in, say, Fall Weather Friends, and I think this was the first time she's ever been in the spotlight like she was here. It was a blank slate.

I'm not saying it was out of character. I'm saying that the writers needed to show how annoying RD was to everyone else, which is not fun to watch.

Echoing most people above. I thought the episode was below average. The characterization was annoying, and they paradoxically didn't give much for Dashie to do in her own episode except be the set-up to an obvious conclusion they've already touched on in the past.

And of course, everyone guessed pretty early on who Batman the Mare was. It did make us appreciate the epic level trolling, but I much prefer a good reveal rather than sitting around waiting for it.

Some really good stand-out moments (the intro was spectacular), but overall nothing special. New writer is not impressing me. It's like she's writing a show for little girls or something.

i 100% agree with you hacklebeast. I just felt board and frustrated this whole episode. really disappointing. the more i think about it the more i feel like this is in my 5 least favorite episode list. However (WARNING going to talk about next episode here) + Show Spoiler +

That's fair, I'm a bit biased because I don't like rarity. Art of the dress, green isn't your color, look before you sleep, sisterhood social, and the dog episode are all in the bottom half for me. I liked sonic rainboom a lot, but not because of rarity.

Okay EQD Writers, I fully expect this to be a fic RIGHT NAO:
In a fit of jealousy, Rainbow Dash kill the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well. Upon removing her mask, she sees Applejack -> last breath profession of love -> Appledash fic -> Dash-commits-suicide cliche -> broken-wings-cliche -> Rainbow Factory prequel

In other news, I loved the fanservice this episode. Nyan Dash was perfect. As far as the hydrodam, in IRC we agreed that it is clearly generating MAGIC, not electricity. Also, all the engineers in Ponyville SUCK.

I enjoyed it, the opening was brilliant with the fanclub. The episode was weak in the middle as the theme was too similar to other episdoes. But it ended strong, the unmasking wasn't a surpirse but it was entertaining.

So overall a middling episode, not a favorite but it was worth watching. And I feel that next weeks episode will be similar, hopefullly I get suprised by a great ep

Well as per usual as of late I didn't see the episode live, but I just watched it there.

I'm going to say this is the worst episode of the whole season in my opinion. It seems I wasn't the only one who had the ending figured out from almost the very start (I was proud of that ). But anyway, I didn't like how the characters seemed out of character, and Dash's character felt particularly overexaggerated. And it just wasn't really that entertaining overall. Well those are my thoughts.

For me, even though this wasn't an episode of the same quality as what we had been receiving before, it is still better than owl's well that ends well, thankfully. The fact that Mysterious Mare was the mane6 was very easy to identify by how they mocked RainbowDash so that kind of spoiled the surprise for me. Apart from that, i didn't like the fact that the episode was mostly RD, i'd rather the whole mane6 solves a problem together.

I must say I actually disliked the fanclub part in the beginning. Probably just me.
What really irks me about Dash is, that she feels kinda flat as a character.
Other Ponies have responsibilities and something like jobs(even Pinkie).
She needs a backstory, not adventures about her selfindulgence.

I would really like an episode about a weather disaster Ranbow Dash has to prevent as chief weathermaker of Ponyville.
At least I remember her being responsible for the weather in the Pilot and Winter Wrap Up. Girl needs a job.

Her backstory is adventures in selfindulgence. And its awesome
