Heh, I've been waiting for a thread like this to pop up eventually after seeing a decent amount of MLP blogs over the last 1-2 months.

2 months ago I used to be a hater, I just thought people were just jumping on the bandwagon to post reaction images and other related memes and they don't actually enjoy the show itself, because well, what is there to enjoy about it, I thought. Then it started to invade every single forum I visit. I knew by then that it could simply not be the biggest organized troll ever, but I was still very skeptical. The only way to find out was to watch an episode.

Unfortunately, the double pilot is probably the worst two episodes (along with ep 8, 17, 18 and 24), so I didn't get hooked at all then and remained skeptical, thinking that all that Elements Of Harmony jazz and girliness were bullshit. Then I saw even people that I had respected changed their avatars to ponies. So I asked them about it, and also stumbled upon some TL blogs about the show like this one: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=199658

Long story short, I gave the show another chance and got hopelessly hooked. The episode that got me hooked was ep 9: Bridle Gossip though. Looking back at it now, I think the best introductory episodes are either ep 13: Fall Weather Friends, 9: Bridle Gossip, 16: Sonic Rainboom, 11: Winter Wrap Up or 23: Cutie Mark Chronicles, depending on whom you want to introduce to the show.

Most of my friends agree as well on Fall Weather Friends/Bridle Gossip being the best introductory episodes, so you might want to perhaps add Fall Weather Friends at least as well to the OP along to Dragonshy (which, in my opinion, isn't convincing enough as the first ep to watch, but each to their own).

...Yeah, I did just mention 'my friends' in the same sentence as MLP. I got most of my closer online AND real life friends into this show (told the real life friends about it over the internet as well though, to actually be able to show them an episode, because even if I had unlimited time, I couldn't explain it to them convincingly enough without them actually seeing it. It just has a 'je ne sais quoi' quality that you just have to watch to experience).

Converting my friends went pretty much the same way in every case: I told them about the show very, very vaguely without once mentioning its title or anything from it, then at the end linked them to Fall Weather Friends and told them to just watch the first 1:30 minute from it before saying anything in response, and if they'll like it, then they should ignore the bad main theme that comes right after it, then they should watch the ep all the way to the end.

The conversions were mostly all very successful (and it gave me and my friends an extra topic to talk about all the time), with a few exceptions who just laughed about it, but they were still all cool about me liking the show. Yeah, fortunately I have great friends. I even found some new brony friends along the way at other forums.

It still freaks us (my friends and I) out though whenever in the middle of discussing the show, the equestriadaily news, the newest cover songs, the fanfics, buying merch (yeah... what has this show done to us), etc. we suddenly stop for a second and look back as rationally as possible at what we've just typed/said and then we're like "This is fucking unreal. If anyone had told us 2 months or longer ago that this would happen, we'd have beaten the shit out of them at the very least."

Speaking of MLP-related songs and cover songs, Not A Clever Pony's stuff is imo the best, especially the songs he released separately after the Luna-related EP (which is still great as well); Sonic Rainboom, The Art Of Celestia's Dress and Main Theme (Farewell Party Mix) are all excellent - the last one of those in particular WILL get you all bronies emotional (if you look it up on youtube, don't look at the vid itself if you haven't seen all episodes yet though, as they contain some spoilers - very, very mild ones at that, but still).

Eurobeat Brony's Super Ponybeat Vol. 1 is also excellent though; can't wait for Vol. 2. Hell, MLP-related stuff have taken over my charts on lastfm, but I don't mind.

Oh and Twilight Sparkle is the best pony. All of the main cast are very likeable though (even Rarity), in fact all of them had been #1 on my list before, which keeps constantly changing (yeah, this whole MLP shit really is serious business).

Yeah, I can't believe I just typed up a tl;dr serious wall of text about MLP. What has this show done to me... (not to mention having happy pony-related dreams all the time these days, not anything r34-related by the way, but still having ponies in dreams is pretty fucked up in the first place regardless; then again, I used to have nightmares all the time before watching MLP so I'm completely ok with this).

Overall I didn't regret becoming a brony at all, even if the whole thing is perhaps just one big brainwash. As weird as it sounds, I had never felt happier before in my life, this show is like the biggest happiness-inducing thing I've ever encountered. In fact one of my friends who used to suffer from depression/anxiety claimed that this show had mostly cured those for him, for which he is very thankful to me for introducing him to the best show ever
