They absolutely hounded him the entire way, and they would always put him in a bad light no matter what happened. They are pretty much a bunch of paparazzis. Yeah i remember the way they reported his sacking, they portrayed it as though he just twatted a guy in the face for not getting him steak. Wait a second. No its Clarkson that put Clarkson in a bad light, not the media. Still there's no doubting he is a very talented TV presenter and a funny guy. Much better than the bucket of shit they replaced him with.

edit: The top rated comment of Top Gear's website says it all: 'The best amazon prime advert ever'

His particular talent, however, lies in being bad at reading from scripts.

Much better than the bucket of shit they replaced him with. This has been discussed to death already. But the gist of it is: The guy didn't do his job. Clarkson in a weak moment snapped. There was a debacle. Clarkson apologized. Clarkson then gets hounded for months on end by british media. I'm not excusing him or saying what he did wasn't retarded. But it's a very far cry from the newspapers loving him. And need I remind you how everyone put him in a bad light after what happened in Argentina? A random ass numberplate? Or how they hounded him for saying "nigger" as part of a traditional children's counting rhyme? Which he realized, while filming, was a bad idea, and told them not to use it- Which they didn't until some asshat decided to be funny and leak it anyways.

The show is just fundamentally based on the chemestry between Clarkson, Hammond and May that it cant work without them without stoping to be "like top gear".

The sad part is, that 4.4 was mostly long time fans hoping the show would be just as good as before. I think by episode 4 the viewers will fall under 4 mill. The first episode was certainly their peak as viewers want to see what the new top gear is like. I think many will not come back for the second episode and once the 'real' top gear starts it will plummet again

If they dumped Evans and brought the Extra Gear team and content into the main show, it seems like it might be OK. Not the same as old top gear, but that's fine. No one expects it to be exactly the same, or really wants them to try and be exactly the same.

I don't think he was nearly as bad as most seems to think either. He could have toned down his enthusiasm(yelling) a little bit, but the jokes were generally on point and somewhat funny. I chuckled a couple of times in the episode. Of course it's not nearly as good as the old Top Gear, but it's not the complete garbage that I expected it to be.

It might not be genius, but I think people are just being a bit hyperbolic saying the new Top Gear is awful.

Now is it just me, or does this seem extremely amateurish by what is the largest car show in the world? I can't believe they would ever forget something like that with the old top gear crew, and even if they did they would probably make it work some way by editing the speedometers like they did in the US and make it into a running gag.
