There were a few possible changes of note this episode.
They are either going somewhere new to the story with this or it could still be a reasonably 'clean' role merge of Gendry turning into Edric. They have shown a willingness to let geography be nonsense in the show in the past. They might have decided KL was a good backdrop to Melisandre telling Gendry who he is. Now going forward he knows, just like Edric of course knew.
I lean towards the latter just because I have no idea what the other could be.
If Talisa does not die at the RW then the Jeyne pregnancy theory gets a wrench thrown in it. Prevailing reasoning has been that her family was giving her stuff to prevent pregnancy and so Robb has no children. She was not pregnant and that was the end of it.
GRRM wrote this episode himself and it is not a minor change in it's effect on endgame, so I don't think it is a random difference they would have thrown in if it has ripples.
However, since she is traveling to the Twins I am inclined to think she dies at the RW. In that case it can be a random little difference with no ripples. OR if she is a spy/plant then it is a non-issue.
Theon doesn't warrant the screen time he is getting. They let other characters have off episodes. Why do we need a weekly update on events under the dreadfort? Worse, it is for something that happened "off screen" in the books.
I like they they finally did something about Jon being a warg. The lack of that build-up as a plot point had been getting troublesome.

Theon parts are just stupid. And it would be probably even worse if i didn't know what's going on.

^ Oh wait I don't feel like rewatching atm as I should be studying for finals, but what references were made that related to Jon's warging?
Also I didn't even think that Talisa was traveling with Robb to the Twins. Fuqq Blackfish went along too. Dear god I hope Robbs ends him back to Riverrun or something. The Blackfish/Jaime confrontation was one of my most favorite moments.

Doesn't the Blackfish swim away? I can't remember exactly when he makes his escape.

Theon will have his off episodes. I have noticed you are hyper-critical, you should just relax and enjoy the show a little more.

He was absent from The Twins. You're thinking about when Edmure surrendered Riverrun to Jaime and Blackfish GTFO'd.

Yeah, thats correct. Gosh. So long ago I read that. I need to reread. And finish book 5 at that.

Oh wow, you haven't finished book 5? Get the hell on that.

I feel like rereading book 3 thats for damned sure. All these changes/additions in the show, and boring ones at that. I remember the book being so fast paced and good. This season is pretty ponderous and boring in comparison.
|
It did get really fast paced for the last 400 pages. Fast paced as in everyone finishes the last 400 pages of the book in like a day after the RW chapter.
|
Yeah, to be honest, the first half of the book is about as slow as the show has been. It all picks up around Arya's kidnapping. Gotta keep in mind that season 3 is only the first half of book three, so it's really ending around the time book 3 kicks into high gear.
God, the Red Wedding, I remember reading it and just being so confused. When the arrow sprouts out of Robb I couldn't bring myself to believe it. I thought I had misread it, or that it was a dream or something. I had to reread it to confirm my suspicions. I was really stoned throughout my entire first read of the books, and I must've just missed all the foreshadowing that seems so obvious on my second run. At that point in the books, I was starting to care less and less for Robb, but I thought somehow he'd get through the twins and sail around Moat Cailin to flank the Ironborn or something. How quickly those hopes were dashed..
|
Yeah that's true. The last half of book 3 had so much shit (almost too much if you ask me with the epilogue) I'm probably forgetting the pace of the rest.

I know >_< Got halfway and got very demotivated by Dany's scenes because I didn't know what the hell was going on. And then started reading another book. Sigh. Have it downloaded on my phone with full intention to read it, but I must finish The Great Gatsby before the movie comes out here!

OMGOMGOMG I remember being so bored, but just plowing through it, and man, the end! Fuckin cliffhangers!

Yeah, I think they've done a good job this season not changing too much. The book is just as uneventful as the show for about half of ASoS. I recall being bored of the book...then Rob and Catelyn get slaughtered and shit hits the fan for everyone thereafter.
Season 4 though...man is that going to be good. The sheer density of stuff packed into the latter half of ASoS is crazy. Almost every episode of that season is going to be good if they follow the book properly.
I wonder if they'll manage to sneak the Dornish characters in before the end of this season. They're introduced in the book a few chapters prior to the RW iirc.

I really doubt it, or we would have heard about a casting for Oberyn Martell, I'd imagine. Seeing as how the wedding is next season, I imagine it'll be in the beginning of season 4.

idk whatever hbo exec said they had to only do 10 episodes a season; they should really look into like 13-15

I'm glad they are splitting it though, book 3 was so packed with stuff happening. My favourite of all the books, I read it in like 2 days I was so obsessed with it. Then came book 4 and I sort of died a bit (although the Margaery and Cersei thing had my interest because I do like a bit of gossip haha) and then yeah, book 5 was really hard. Hope George finishes Book 6 before the series catches up with him though.
