It's not just you. That's about the point where I lost interest in the novels as well. I like the show though. I think this is one of the very very few times where the TV adaptation is better than the source material. I'm probably wrong though since millions of people seem to really enjoy the novels. I'm not really sure why I didn't.

What exactly was it that happened halfway through book 2 that makes you think that?

IT'S CRAZY well it hink Caesar has his Caesar thing going on... ON every single shot or clip he looks like this fearless, merciless, cold warrior-leader.
I always imagined him with a mocking smile on his face, and he's described as the minstrel type who would surpise you when he kicks your ass, or when u find out he's actually the KBtW.
I have a feeling we wont get that introduction scene from the books, he's gonna be more of a Magnar of Tent than Bael the bard

And I agree that Asha doesn't fit her description in the books well.
Then again Ygritte looks waaaaaaaaayyy too perfect.
wow, this was exactly what i thought. Asha was a big "wtf" in a bad way and Ygritte in a good way. Daenerys was just perfect ♥

Cersei aint perfect but it's understandable. You need a great actress who looks over 35 but still very easy on the eyes. She filled the dots satisfactorily. Asha and Margaery are firmly on the ugly side.
Daenerys has grown on me. Used to think she was kinda plain in Season 1, kinda pretty in Season 2. And now looking at her in season 3 trailer with her blue dress and I go "Dayum!".

Ok, it could be my lack of not having dated in a long while but you think the actress playing Margaery is ugly? I mean to each their own. I don't see ugly at all. Asha I agree is a little on the manish side but that's the only one. The others I wouldn't kick out of my bed, just saying. On second thought i prob wouldn't kick any of them out lol. What can I say, I'm desperate.

Asha was the first casting that totally threw me off, I don't like it at all. Renly actually bothers me a bit too. In the books I got the image of him as looking like young Robert but in the show he comes off more as a pretty boy.
In a show with such a big cast having so few quibbles with the casting is great since they have to find good looking people who can actually act too. In Dany's case a young actress who can act and pull off a silver wig.

I agree I think the actress that plays Margaery is quite attractive. Cersei and Ygritte are really well cast too IMO

Ygritte's actually supposed to be pretty mediocre-looking, but hey you gotta be hot to have sex scenes with Kit Harington
|
Renly was certainly different, the silly scene in the series where he was being a little girl over his own blood, when he was attending tourneys in books was kinda...
Tyrion and Tywin all too good though.
|
Dunno what you guys are smoking Margaery is hot! Also Tyrion, Tywin, Arya, Jon Snow, Varys, Jamie, Brienne all inspired casting. The Cersei actress, while not being super-attractive, is great at portraying the character.
Almost forgot Joffrey- perfect casting there too.

Well to be fair I started losing interest somewhere near the end of book 1, but I started reading book 2 anyway to give the series a fair shot and just gave up halfway through. I'm sure it's a good series, not trying to offend it's fans or anything, just for me personally I find that the TV adaptation is better than the novels. I started reading it after it got super hyped though, so that could have something to do with it.

Yea, that pisses me off. But a lot of little things they do in the show make me angry. But that's going to happen with any film adaption of literature unfortunately

Ygritte was not well cast, unless your definition of "well cast" is "hot actress". She was supposed to be fairly average looking and rough, but instead she's like the most attractive actress in the show, and on top of that they put a bunch of make up on her and hollywood the fuck out of her.
She's supposed to be a wildling, dirty and unkempt. yet the show some how interprets that she's supposed to look like this:

Sorry for ranting, it just bugs me. I really hated the Jon Snow/Ygritte scenes.

I agree, but sadly people complain way more when an actress is not up to their (ridiculously high) standards of beauty than when an actress doesn't fit the description at all but is still hot.
If anyone in the show doesn't live up to his in-book description it's Loras imo.

Glad to see i'm not the only one bothered by some of the actors. When I first watched the TV adaptation, it really bugged me, to a point where i almost stopped watching. When I see an actor, I can't get his face out of my mind and that upsets me to no end when I can't have MY own face ( the one I pictured ) in my mind when reading.

Well i mean they aren't going to make the show look ugly just proven by Tyrion after the injury to the fact is just a big scar vs missing most of his nose.

That's just how it works, and there's no way around it. As we all learned from The Simpsons, there's "ugly ugly" and "TV ugly".
And as for Tyrion, I bet it also had a lot to do with the make-up/CGI effort of having a character with just half a nose. I much would have preferred him with mismatched eyes and bit of a wobble in his gait, too, but eh. Peter Dinklage is still the perfect choice for the role, obviously.

I love every single cast for season 1 and season 2, but i've got a really hard time with Mance Rayder. Just from the shaggy looks and the way he speaks in his scene we know from the trailer i can imagine that this could turn out to be a bad choice. Obviously the guy is a great actor, but i guess we'll have to see what he brings into that role.
