I think he'll be awesome, but he won't be like Mance in the books for sure. Guessing Mcnulty from The Wire would've been more like Book-Mance (their initial choice for Mance).

Yea I've been okay with most of the casting choices so far (only one I didn't like was Asha), but Mance seems really off. Hopefully his acting will make up for it.

Mance better sing The Dornishman's Wife. It was one of my favorite moments in the entire series, the way he introduces himself.
Let a man play chess, and tell him that every pawn is his friend. Let him think both bishops holy. Let him remember happy days in the shadows of his castles. Let him love his queen. Watch him lose them all.

Really? I thought Asha's casting was spot on, I just hate the name change to Yara v_v

The producers were scared there would be confusion between Asha and Osha IIRC. I don't really know how to describe why I don't like the TV Asha, I guess she was just different from what I imagined.

She's exactly as I pictured her, and is my favorite character even named one of my dogs after her because he's a bitch.

She is portrayed fine in character, but her appearance is off. She is supposed to be somewhat hot. She and Ygritte should be switched around when it comes to make-up chairs. Ygritte is a dirty wilding, like someone else said Asha is somewhat like pirate captain Isabella from dragon age but toned down to not be ridiculous.

As long as it isn't Kyra. I'm afraid I'd be somewhat closed to the idea of anyone with a dog named Kyra not being a terrible, terrible person.

Those extra 20 seconds have a lot of extra little scenes covered. I can't place who it is reciting the prayers of the red god near the beginning or the woman in the 'red scene' midway through.

It looks like they have Jon come a lot closer to cutting the man's head off in the show than the books. I wonder if they have him actually do it in the show.

Was that Lysa in a sex scene, 1:03? What? No way they get that far this season. Must be Ygritte but the lighting and expression makes her look a bit like Lysa.

Re-reading through the series again I have one big question stuck in my head.

Has RR given us a hint to what Varys' motives are?

Everyone else seems easy to pin down with one or another motive or ambition but considering the breadth of time Varys has been lurking around it's hard to guess at what his goals were. I wonder what his relationship with Rhaegar was.

Varys claims to support Aegon in the end of ADWD, but I'm not convinced he really is. People speculate Varys is either a Blackfyre supporter, a Blackfyre himself, or seeking an end to the Lannisters so the Targaryens can rule the region in stability.

Read the Aegon is a Blackfyre theory, Varys is supporting Aegon only Aegon isn't who everyone thinks he is

EDIT: It's really in depth and plausible, it's up there with R+L=J for me

Yeah familiar with that. I should have added that I am suspicious anyone wants to be a genuine stewart of the land simply for the sake of the land (though Tywin would have been the winner if that was the case).

Here are some of the unconfirmed rumored changes for season 3 from the book to the show are below. Potential spoilers obviously if you don't want to know about the changes, and I don't know how accurate any of them are, though he was pretty accurate on his list for season 2.

http://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/19grs4/spoilers_all_leaked_and_rumored_changes_for/

Last year I wrote this thread compiling the leaked and rumored changes from the books for Season 2. So here's what I've seen on various sites about Season 3 changes. Last year's thread was pretty accurate, so if you don't want possible changes to be spoiled for you, don't read on.

Overall it appears that this season will stick much more closely to the books than S2 did. There will be many changes, but they'll mostly involve simplifying complex situations and substituting more prominent characters for less prominent ones while retaining the core of every book plotline.

• King's Landing: The biggest changes of the year will be in King's Landing. Since Joff's wedding will be in Season 4, the importance of the Lannister/Tyrell maneuvering over who Sansa will marry will be greatly elevated and expanded. It will climax with the Sansa/Tyrion marriage in Episode 8. While this is not confirmed, it seems very likely that the Queen of Thorns will try to marry Sansa and Loras (to his chagrin), rather than Sansa and Willas. We also know there will be many invented scenes so the various Tyrell characters can share scenes with the various Lannisters and Sansa. Also, there will be a subplot with Ros (big surprise). Speculation has Ros as, in some way, a substitution for Dontos, who has been cut from the season.

• Stannis: The most controversial change of the year by far will likely be to Stannis. There's no word of Edric Storm being cast, but the showrunners have said that one plotline this season will be about "a debated sacrifice." So it seems clear that Stannis will seriously contemplate giving Shireen to the flames.

• Jon: The recognizable actor Mackenzie Crook was cast as Orell. It seems likely that Orell will be a composite of the eagle-skinchanger Jon kills in ACOK and Varamyr (one eagle is cheaper than 6 wild beasts). The battles at the Wall and Ygritte's death are almost certainly not going to happen this season. We can assume this because the actor who plays Pyp revealed that he did only one day of filming this season. Pyp remained at the Wall and is not in Mormont's party, so it seems likely that Jon will return to the Wall in the season finale and be briefly welcomed by Pyp, with the battles taking place next season.

• Dany: Many think that Dany will free the Unsullied at the end of the season. In fact, leaked audition videos long ago revealed that this occurs midway through. (The videos showed a scene where Daario and Mero discuss what to do about Dany and her Unsullied army.) The new list of episode titles strongly suggests that the season will end with Dany's victory over Yunkai'i.

• Theon: A leaked audition video sheds some light on Theon's (invented) scenes too. Apparently Theon wakes up and is led to believe that he is being held by the ironborn, and he's told that his father has locked him up because he's such a disappointment. There are some mindfuck / torture scenes with the character called "Boy". Probably only later in the season will it be revealed that "Boy" is Ramsay, to disguise the Bolton betrayal.

• Robb: A tweet from Oona Chaplin led many to believe that Talisa will attend the Red Wedding, and probably die there.

• Jaime: The Vargo Hoat role is being taken by a character named Locke, who is simply a Bolton man rather than the foreign sellsword of shifting allegiances from the book.

• Littlefinger: There will be invented scenes in the Eyrie with Lysa and Sweetrobin in at least one episode this year. I suspect this is Littlefinger visiting to propose marriage, but this has not been confirmed.

If Talisa dies at the Red Wedding this puts an end to theories that stated that Robb may have had a son/daugther since GRRM would have told them not to kill her if this was the case. Seems like we will have a lot of Dany sequence as well.

The thing about Sansa's marriage should be very interesting, I like it. Although I don't understand how Loras can marry if he is in the kingsguard ???

1. The Loras -- Willas change is quite obvious after the actor talks about his role in season 3, and it makes sense from a viewer-only perspective. Ros... w/e
2. Really? I heard about a boy being casted without an official name, announced n WiC, i assumed he is Edric
3. makes sense
4. makes snese i guess
5. Good way to tie up a stupid change
6. from what i heard they wanted to cast the Goat, but some UK television laws dont allow making fun of people with speech-problems so they had to change it and cut him completly... kinda stupid, but what u gonna do...
7. Littlefinger moves through time and space and lives in a completly different reality than the actual world of westeros... according to the show writers at least, so no change will surpise me since his dialogues and appearences in s2 mostly made no fucking sense (calling the tyrells the third largest force after Lannisters and Staksk, moving from one place to another in a matter of days, while it should be weeks, being aggressive as a horned rooster etc.)

It's not just you. That's about the point where I lost interest in the novels as well. I like the show though. I think this is one of the very very few times where the TV adaptation is better than the source material. I'm probably wrong though since millions of people seem to really enjoy the novels. I'm not really sure why I didn't.

What exactly was it that happened halfway through book 2 that makes you think that?

Well to be fair I started losing interest somewhere near the end of book 1, but I started reading book 2 anyway to give the series a fair shot and just gave up halfway through. I'm sure it's a good series, not trying to offend it's fans or anything, just for me personally I find that the TV adaptation is better than the novels. I started reading it after it got super hyped though, so that could have something to do with it.

After reading all five books I have to say I didn't enjoy book one until I read about L + R = J, suddenly that made book one much more enjoyable. I'm surprised you didn't enjoy book 2 though. To each their own I guess.

That also isn't what jumping the shark means if you just lose interest.
