beric and brynden are identical to my imagination.
meera and jojen are fantastic imo.
Only one who isnt truly a fantastic looking fit is thoros, I imagined him heavier for some reason. Kind of blundering. Maybe that's totally off.

Did anyone else laugh when the guy playing Robb said he loved coming back every season to see what was different?
|
yeah that was hilarious, I'm pretty sure HBO is trolling with that one.

I thought earlier in the series he was fat, but when he went with Dondarrion and the brotherhood he got fit again so IMO he looks pretty fucking perfect. As for the rest, they all look phenomenal.

Can someone refresh my memory who Missandei is? I can't remember her from the books.

She translates Ghiscari for Dany in Astapor and then becomes one of her handmaidens.
|
She is the slave girl who Dany gets as a free bonus when she buys the Unsullied. She had been doing the redundant translating during the bargaining while Dany was pretending not to speak that particular dialect of Ghiscari*. Like that pen with your bank, doctor, insurance w/e name on it that you take with you when you leave only a person. She then progresses towards being female Littlefinger for Dany and Barristan and the all around third handmaiden type besides Irri and Jaqui.

ah ok thanks. Explains why I don't remember her much. Been a while since book 3 and she's not a major character.

the fact that they gave her a intro on the vod, and made her alot older, somehow i think her part will be quite big.
|
she was as important to dany as anyone else in her entourage. I wouldn't have dismissed her as non-major.

Or they will make her look younger. And/Or it is another sex issue. And/Or they wanted to keep her closer to Dany's age and obviously Dany is one of the "+4 years-ers" in the show.
With the other handmaidens and the most important bloodrider removed my money is primarily on what you said though. There is rather a gap to be made up for in populating Dany's story.

Irri and Doreah are both dead, so Missandei will get all the handmaiden-y bits and probably some Essos/Astapor/Ghis/Valyrie/Meereen/Yunkai/blabal expository dialogue.
|
I would have far preferred to keep anything sexual out of her character and keep her as a little kid, though. I feel like the weight of having this sweet little thing following this girl who is just drowning in people dying would have been so interesting.
But I have faith that whatever's coming will be just as good.

Really curious on how they're expanding Orell's role, he does nothing as a human.
|
It seems nearly certain that his show incarnation is a role merge with Varamyr seeing as Varamyr has not been cast and Orell was already dead by now as a human.

That makes perfect sense, thanks!

Just finished my re-read of books 1-4. Now, finally, on to A Dance with Dragons, and undiscovered territory.
Just a couple thoughts before I delve into the fifth book: God, do I hate cersei. Every POV character, besides her, I can empathize with. But I just can't- just can't like Cersei. Such a bitch. Her tone is so condescending and smug and superior it... it drives me nuts. She always talks about being surrounded by idiots, but its her idiocy and stubbornness that seems the worst to me. And her pet Qyburn makes me angry too. All his torturing, she's condoned.... grrrrr. I was very happy when Jaime burned her letter at the end of the fourth book.
And speaking of Jaime, he is one of my favorite characters at this point. Its sad to see all the disrespect he gets, especially since he never explains or justifies his murder of Mad Aerys. I suspect he will be the one to kill cersei at the end, and fulfill her prophecy. Tyrion seems to much of an obvious choice to complete that task. Its gonna have to be Jaime that strangles cersei.
After my lingering resentment of Tyrion after the third book, I'm interested to see how he acts in the fifth. I was disappointed by how he treated Jaime, and I hope they can reconcile at some point.
Sam Tarly got laid, and that's cool.
Arya is probably my favorite character. I hope she develops more power and returns to Westeros and kicks all sorts of ass. Part of me thinks she'll fall in with Dany and serve her in the fifth book. We'll see.
A little intrigued to see what's happening up on the wall, but really not. Jon Snow is alright, but all that mystical Others shit has left me feeling apprehensive. I feel like its going to be the many focus point at the climax at the end of the series, and that worries me.
Sansa's story is pretty good. But I'm afraid Littlefinger is going to try too hard to hit on her, and she's going to spurn him and he's going to take revenge on her. I have a feeling none of that will end well.
Brienne's story was mostly a drag. But it climaxed well. I can only assume her and pod are dead. But some part of me thinks they're not. Podrick was a motherfucking bad ass though. So it was a shame for him to be hung.
I've never liked Catelyn Stark, and I doubt I ever will. Though I can empathize with her tragedy, I feel like she set herself up for most of it. So seeing her hang Brienne didn't change much of my opinion about her. The brotherhood seems to have gone to shit though.
Anyways, off to start reading A Dance with Dragons. Then once I'm done I can finally read through this thread without having to worry about spoilers.

didn't even notice but that's pretty hilarious re-watching it now ahaha
I'm not sure if that will be this season or next season though, isn't it the second half of book 3?
|
They're capping this season off with it, as nothing really big happens in the first half of ASOS. Joff, Tywin, and maybe Ygritte will probably all die next season.
