Yep. There's nothing clever about the scripting now, and short of the puppet episode, there has been no innovation either.

I like those choices
On another note; the season has now finished. That may be the last episode of Community ever. I'm a little bit sad even though the program has certainly declined. For those who hadn't already heard, Chevy has left the show and that is why hes received so little screen time in the latter half of the season. One of my favorite characters and completely instrumental to Season 1 and 2s success.
?RIP.
P.S. + Show Spoiler + What is the deal with the absence of the City College plot, which had been foreshadowed at the end of last season, and in the penultimate episode?

That red dress made up for everything though.

I was quite satisfied with this finale. The season was rocky, but there were some great moments and the finale left me feeling good about the show. I'd love to see more Community but on the other hand the wiser decision is probably to let it go rather than push it too far.

Is it wrong that I thought first of the Dean in a red dress?

I agree wholeheartedly. It was a very satisfying and succinct finale that didn't go for the "sequel bait". This season had a lot of great moments but also a lot of very weak ones and I think it would be hard to justify keeping it going. Lots of characters just became completely flat, uncompelling, and un-funny (SHIRLEY especially, but also Britta, Troy, and Pierce").
Maybe a spinoff about Abed's filmmaking career could be cool...

any idea what the blackboard was referring to?
the capitalized words were "SIX SEASONS AND A MOVIE"

Awful end to and awful season imo The 'paintball' stuff in particular was abysmal.

I was disappointed with how seriously they took the darkest timeline. The most enjoyable parts of the episodes were the beginning and ending sequences, the elaborate darkest timeline plot just didn't work in my opinion. The season was still ok it had some good episodes and was definitely more miss than hit than previous seasons, but the hits were still good. If Community is renewed I'll watch it, but if it's not I'll still be disappointed that it couldn't leave on a strong note like season 3's ending.

This last episode was as bad as this season has been

This fourth season was the weakest season I don't think any fan would argue otherwise. That said I still enjoy moments of it and fifth season will not have to go through the drama of Dan Harmon recently leaving and Chevy Chase not being availble to work because he wanted to quit the show. The Christmas episode for example was supposed to have Chevy Chase and the origins episode had a stand in actor.

The last episode suffered from what seems to be a lack of support and enthusiasm. The last few episodes were all shot after the "delay," so I imagine there was an air of, "What's the point?" The last episode especially, where it feels like they had more material but cut it to 1 episode.

The only man that can save this show from itself has been asked to return, apparently.
Today we still have no precedent, and we still have no concrete evidence, but we may have slightly more reason to believe that some people might actually be talking about this, so we can talk about their talking. As first reported by a writer for Hollywookiee who was in attendance at the latest taping of Harmontown, Harmon told his podcast audience that “he has been asked to return to Community.” Almost immediately, the report continues, Harmon asked that this remark be edited out of the podcast, saying that it was just for the live audience to hear. Then, perhaps remembering that some people in his audience may have access to the Internet, he quickly changed his mind, reportedly saying, “Ahhh fuck it. I don’t care who knows!” Harmon also joked that “he would only return if they brought Chevy Chase back too,” an idea that caused him to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Ah life, the divine comedy, etc.

This was good and now it's over. If they really want to they can keep the same people together and try and hit a new vein of gold but this one is mined out.

Well, they renewed it for a fifth season. After the debacle of how the fourth season ended, they probably need to reboot the show and premise. Hell, just replace some of the cast.
There's no way they can go back to same old cast and premise, it just doesn't make sense anymore that these characters would be in school in fourth years and barely change.

Actually, Harmon's plan was to have them all graduate from community college. That's why he put the characters together in other areas, like Pierce and Shirley working together on their shop, or Abed, Troy and Annie living together, so they'd all have a reason to stay around each other even after graduating. So my ideal situation now is Harmon coming back and letting them all magically graduate in one season and move on with what he originally planned. One can dream..

They made that show already, it was called friends.

They should make Jeff a teacher, and just replace a majority of cast. Treat the whole show like Skins, where the cast rotates.
There's some characters that are so problematic in terms of development (like Chang, Annie, Troy) that they can't be saved.
