Oh god the last two weeks of January are suddenly going to make me broke and deaf. Guverment just announced their finale 5 shows, and out of the 5, there are 4 I want to go to xD 1. Danny Tenaglia (The one I don't plan on seeing) - Jan. 10 2. Cosmic Gate - Jan. 17 (Their last set here over the summer at Guv, was easily my favourite of the year) 3. Knife Party - Jan. 23 (Didn't expect them to be coming to TO for this, but I love Knife Party/ Pendulum ) 4. Armin van Buuren - Jan. 24 (Even though I've seen Armin a million times and wasn't really planning on seeing him any time soon again, unless it was an ASOT show, I feel like this will be a special show) 5. Deadmau5 - Jan. 25 (I've never actually seen Deadmau5 ahaha)
Plus Above and Beyond like 3 weeks later somewhere else
Holy shit that should be a fun fucking month. Jealous. Armin(jealous x1000, he still owes chicago a show ) and Deadmau5 should be quality, and I'm not the biggest Knife Party fan but the one time I saw them live was an amazing time. At least I'll get above and beyond feb 14 <3

Trust me, Danny Tenaglia is going to be a must see, he's already a must see, but one of the last acts at a legendary venue. That set is going to be epic and memorable. Even if you don't like techno/house Danny will mix it up enough to have a good time. So jealous of that booking.
Highly, highly recommend not missing that show again.
Can anybody recommend me some producers to listen to?
I'm caught in between deep house and nu disco (I love that funky vibe). Zhu somehow led me to deep house, and flight facilities/caribou nu disco. Something of that sort (modern, not-so-european, etc.). Pads are so chill, basslines subtle and funky, chords are complex yet the progression isn't necessarily so.

Huh. I guess I'll check out his stuff first. One of the reasons I wasn't planning on going to his was because I'd never heard of him (It's also going to depend on how expensive the other shows are)
And Decaf, you get A&B the day before we do! Lucky bastards for getting it on Valentines Day!!

My gf's response when tickets came out "I guess we've got valentine's day plans". Damn straight :D

His stuff is super clean, simple and fresh. Starting to wonder if there are others like him.
thx
Maceo Plex is definitely a good start. Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, The Martinez Bothers, Jamie Jones, Skream, Nicolas Jaar, Motor City Drum Ensemble, David August, DJ Pierre, Digitalism, Guy J, Guy Gerber, Maya Jane Coles, James Zabiela, and Carl Craig are all a good start. There is a good mix of deep house, house, techno and some nu disco in here.
Edit: Oh and check out boiler room sets on youtube. Very good recorded sets on there from a lot of various genres.
Edit 2: As a matter fact this is a really good deep house set: + Show Spoiler +

Ah definitely should check him out. He's a pioneer in the electronic scene and is definitely someone a lot of today's dj's have looked up to.
Duke if you're ever in chicago you'll have to check out spybar, at least half of everyone you just listed has played there this year.
One of my favorite clubs, Castle formerly Vision, is closing Building got bought out, see if they turn it into another club/if they fuck it up. Closing show is gonna be Myon and Shane 54. Unfortunately same night as audien but i've already seen him a handful of times.
lol so you'd think after 18 years, that Guvernment would know how to sell tickets. But instead they release Armin, Knifeparty and Deadmau5 at the exact same time and break the site. I had tickets to armin and mau5 in my shopping cart, but because it broke I lost them due to waiting times (and it sold out in apparently 1-5minutes)....
Edit. And it happened again with my knife party tickets. T.T
Moar Editz: Fuck Ticketweb is a joke. I managed to get an armin ticket (that they put a few more tickets up for) and between the time it took me to just fill in my card's security number and hitting review to pay for it, they sold my ticket to someone else.
That sucks inquisitor. One of the perks of living a a medium sized town is that when big shows come through they aren't sold out in seconds. Also the calendar is freaking stacked so far early 2015. Such a good mix of genres as well. I definitely needed some decent trance to come through to mix up all the house and techno that has been coming through.
Edit: Also taking donations for my beatport cart/hold bin. Total is getting close to 3k I believe.
Yeah, thats definitely not a perk of living in a big city ahah. Anyways, they ended up selling some more tickets for the event (that I assume they found from the site crashing or something and not getting sold) and got one for Armin and KP. So not the total end of the world lol. And wow, thats quite the list!
If I wasnt freakin' sick today, I'd totally be going to see Simon Patterson close out the year

Man...what a miss with Simon Patterson. I'm a little under the weather as well and won't be going out either...missing a 4 hour set from Matthew Dear.

Yeah simon is a huge miss! His OU 100 sets have been baller.
Also deadmau5 has been calling out scalpers buying and reselling his tickets for the guv show lol
Just got back from MS54 at the closing night of castle chicago. It was crazy to see such a legendary club go out. For the first time in ages(possibly ever) the line was around the block. The openers went hard and hit tons of classics (even heard lethal industry). MS54 played a bit of their cheesey stuff but got on to some of their better remixes and songs and then paid homage in their closing hour or so playing tons of classics with On a Metropolis Day as their last track. Finished up with all the DJs, producers, and staff crying on stage. Even the bartender I always go to started crying when I closed out. Can't even imagine what the last night at the Guv will be like.
Anyone got any recommendations similar to Tinush? Both his Wasser Brot und Improvisieren album and his Sandburg single are a lot of fun, though pretty different in sound.
Thomas Hayes has a really solid year end mix (a little progressive with lots of trancy elements). Definitely captures a lot of what I really liked hearing this year, but also has a lot of stuff I didn't hear. Enhanced is probably my favorite label right now as well.
