Enjoy chaps.
Some of the bands you posted, especially this one, sound like an extremely poor imitation of 96 to 99 In Flames. I don't get why every band likes to copy their harmonised guitars now...IMO only In Flames can do it well - before they turned into an emo band, anyway.

Well it's ok for a band to take influences from another band so thats why there are similarities, fair enough you don't like it but I don't agree that In Flames are an emo band.

Emo band is a bit hard but I agree though.
In Flames were very unique back then but now, they do nothing that every other Metalcore band could do. I understand it from their point of view. They toured for years and couldnt make a lot of money, despide investing time and energy into the band. Now, with their current style, they can live like famous rock stars, because they play the music that most people want to hear. Its not only In Flames. Everyone interested in music knows that though :p
Being influenced by a band can be good, but you have to be careful, not to lose you own style or even worse, never develope one because you are too stuck to one bands style. Sometimes it can be good for musicians to not listen to any music of their genre for , lets say, 2 month. Then try to create some stuff and it might be much more "free". I cannot explain it better but maybe some people know what I wanted to say :p
I hate In Flames for ruin the great Riff from "I'm the highway" with such a goddamn bad chorus. The whole Sense of purpose album is shit in my opinion. Bad they had some really god songs back in the days.

So true. I remember listening to 'Behind Space' and I loved it so much!! I went to one of their shows in Cologne Germany at the time, reroute to remain came out. I have hated the band since then!! Not only did they sound like modern NuMetal-shit but also, they audience for them changed drastically. When I first saw them years before, they played a great Death Metal show. In Cologne, people looked like emo kids all over the place. They didnt play more than 1 !!! song from their first two albums
I have never been more disappointed after a concert, seriously!
Wow, I wrote my last post sober and now I'm drunken as fuck but there are so many mistakes in my last post.... horrible. Sorry for that but anyway, don't get me wrong IF were one of my first metal bands along with Blind Guardian and I still love them (for their old records) but their new stuff is pure pop in my opinion. When I listen to their new songs I always have the feeling that there is no "spirit" behind it. It's like Nuclear Blast said: "You guys were lazy for 2 years, we need a new album, do your usual stuff and everthing is okay". And I, for myself, can't enjoy this kind of music when I know a shitload of other bands who work their asses off for music which is so much more honest (call it "true", whatever, but without those true music/fans there would be no metalscene in 2011 like we have it now). Hmm, whatever I'm drunken. Support real music, fuck money-making shit.

Calling other music genres shit is kind of childish. They are popular and more people like them for a reason. In flames and dt changed their style over the years for a reason, more people like it, they like it. The main way they changed their style is making it way more melodic. Reasons can be whatever, i don't care if they did it for money, if they did it because they didn't like their more pure death metal style anymore or something completely different, I prefer their semi recent albums over their albums. imo there aren't even enough bands making very melodic death metal while there are a ton and maybe too many making regular death metal. Implying you are a true music/metal fan just because you like different music genres over others is pretty ridiculous too. I'm sorry, you aren't better than others just for liking death metal. This attitude needs to go.
I guess you didn't understand my post. For example: where did I say melo-death is shit? I'm open-minded when it comes to music.

I understand and agree to what you say about liking different genres.
However, I dont see where "Gesperrt" said something bad about other genres in his post. It is just the point that it can be very frustrating if you like a band a lot and then they change their style completely. If you learn about the band after they released 5 albums, its ok if you like them the way they are then. It happened to me too, that I listened to older bands and liked their new stuff without even knowing the old records. I understand that this is nothing wrong. It is just frustrating for the actual fans of the band. In the case of In Flames, I think the best way would have been had they changed their name with their style. They switched some musicians and their style. Why not make it a new project? Well, they reason is simple. Once you get a name and want to make money (which is nothing wrong when you opt to be a professional musician) it wouldnt be wise to change the name you made for yourself. What bothers me, is that often times, the musicians did not make a name for themselves. What they do is: Take the name of a known band, change the style to something more modern and make money with it while pissing the real fans off.
And again, this is not about not liking a specific genre. It is totaly ok if someone likes melo death or just death metal. And it is not about making money with music is a bad thing. As a musician, I know that making money with music is very hard, so taking every opportunity you can get is something a lot of people just do.

Old Scar symmetry was awesome but I don't like them anymore since Älvestam left.
The new singers are actually a lot better than alvestam was. They kicked him out because he didn't want to tour, and wasn't able to pull off the grunting and singing live.
None but the guys themselves probably know the actual reason of why he left, there's alot of speculation, like him not wanting to tour, SS wanting to play some old songs which were recorded with growl and clean at the same time etc. But he sure could pull that shit off live better than any vocalist I've ever heard for sure, so I don't know where you got that from. Robert, or whatever the growlers name is, does a pretty decent job I'll admit, but I don't see how you can actually think Lars is better than Älvestam. The choice of having a different singer for clean and growl is probably good, but Älvestam and Robert would be miles ahead of Lars and Robert. Opinions are opinions i guess.
Anyways, some bands I've been listening to lately would be

I didn't really like Inflames nor dark tranquilitys first albums. Their best albums were no doubt every album after lunar strain up to and including come clarity. Sense of purpose was meh, but still better than lunar strain.
For dark tranquility the albums i like most have easily been everything from projector up to fiction, i liked we are the void too, but not as much as the ones before. Skydancer and The Gallery were just not that good at all. Stanne has really changed for the better over the years ever since back when he did lunar strain and the first DT albums.
I can't really agree with this enough, we are of the same opinion sir.
Best DT album would imo be Character which incidentally is my favourite album of all time.
Some more music:
A band that deserves far more recognition than they get currently:
What do you guys think about all the reissues from the old Death albums? After Scream Bloody Gore and Leprosy, Human will show up with a new mix too. I think that no one really needs this shit. And I don't think that those reissues can keep the spirit of the original albums every Death-Metal fan (should) love.
