I kid, they're ok, just massively overrated. :<
Anyway, I've been seeing a lot of random "lolol let's make a metalhead alphabet [with only mainstream/commercial bands]" on Facebook and lo and behold Lamb of God was always the L. If anyone's looking for something like Lamb of God with less -core and more thrash influence:
I think they're both overrated and underrated, if that makes any sense at all (probably not). I guess I'm saying I only like Palaces and to some degree Ashes. Haven't cared much for anything they've done since then, but Palaces is pretty much a metalcore classic (one of the few). The riffs! Also Randy is very charismatic on stage.
It depends what you mean by metalcore. Modern metalcore? Sure, I agree, and it's one of the few not-atrocious albums in said sub-genre.
Anyway, enough of that, been revisiting some delicious Swedish stuff lately:

Lycaon's the name of the song, Misanthrope is the band's name :p
EDIT : Dismember is such a great death metal band, too bad they splitted
Lol fuck me no wonder I couldn't find anything on them. -_-
Man I'm perpetually tired somehow.
Yeah RIP Dismember, one of the best bands metal has seen. Their debut was absolutely fucking fantastic from every standpoint, and some of their later stuff was excellent as well (particularly The God That Never Was I found to be chock full of amazing melodies and trem riffs)
Oh and while we're on the topic of Sweden and classics:

I'd probably say Opeth, although they focus more on atmosphere and melody and don't include symphonic elements. Completely different brand of prog metal, but I think you would do well to check them out.

Storm of the Light's Bane obviously :p
The Somberlain is excellent as well, and IIRC so is the Where Dead Angels Lie EP. Reinkaos and the Maha Kali EP are fairly weak IMO so I can't really recommend them. :/

bolt thrower is the best live band i've ever seen. holy shit. having withdrawals from the show
Hmm... sounded pretty good, although to be quite honest with you it failed to impress me. It certainly doesn't have that fantastic tone/production/overall style that their first 3 albums had, but disregarding that I'd say it's a solid, listenable piece of modern melodeath. I'll give it a few more listens over the next few days and see how I feel after that.
I don't know man, in theory this year was supposed to be amazing but in practice I'd have to say Suffocation's was probably the best of the new albums, and that wasn't exactly mind-blowing or anywhere near, I'm afraid. :s
I'll give those a listen when I have some extra time.
Looks like there's a new Amon Amarth song out. ;o Sounds better than the last one, hopefully it only gets better from here, regarding this album's contents. ^^

Checking it out now, don't have terribly high hopes though.
s'alright. Pretty much exactly what I was expecting. AA are kinda like the Cannibal Corpse of melodeath.

I think it's because last year was so wall-to-wall amazing that this year seems relatively quiet. There are still some really good releases from Tengger Cavalry(more on them later), Defeated Sanity, Chaos Invocation, Persefone, Thorngoth, and, like you said, Suffocation. I think Defeated Sanity's Passages into Deformity is the best album of the year so far.
There's also albums coming next month from Autopsy, Mouth of the Architect, and Deeds of Flesh. I've been waiting for those all year. Oh, and something else. NEW BLACK SABBATH MOTHERFUCKERS! I am beyond exited for that shit. They were the band that started this crazy obsession over a decade ago and now I will finally be able to experience a new album. Ever since they announced it, I've been literally marking days off my calendar. And now it's only 15 days away.
Now onto Tengger Cavalry. They're a folk metal band from China and they're awesome. They already put an album out earlier this year called Black Steed and they're coming out with another album on June 1st called The Expedition. I can't speak to the quality of the newer album but Black Steed is quite good. I highly recommend it. It's probably my second favorite album this year. Here's a song from Black Steed:
