I also made a thread about this project on reddit. Pls guys check it out. This project needs as much attention as possible. I´m sick of all this Loudness War bullshit and this is a good opportunity to fight against it. I want dynamic amazing sounding albums and not compressed crap. Here´s the reddit link: http://www.reddit.com/r/Music/comments/1ebwj4/earache_starts_kickstarter_for_an_fdr_remaster_of/ and here the Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1927808414/nocturnus-thresholds-1992-vinyl-lp-record-new-pres What do you guys think of all this?

![]() But we should really consider backing this up. Even if you don´t really know the band (they are fucking awesome!) it would still make sense to do it as it would make future releases possible. I´m still waiting for an FDR remaster of Slaughter of the Soul. That would would be sick ![]()

Honestly I think that, Like An Everflowing Stream, Dark Recollections etc have fantastic production, even more so considering old school death metal standards. Slaughter has great production as it is. Then again I feel like the Gothenburg classics sound as good as they do because there is that raw bit of murkiness in there. Still, could be good. Cool idea all in all, hopefully they won't end up sounding sterile as fuck.

I'd say The Red in the Sky is Ours is probably their weakest, although it is still very much a good album with some interesting ideas within.

For people like me, that don't like standard death metal that much, some death metal, that is actually both good and interesting: -Gojira: Not much innovation, but other than that, I love them! -Waltari - Yeah! Yeah! Die! Die! Death Metal Symphony in Deep C (At one's own peril. Their discography consists of some of the weirdest crossover-stuff that you can imagine. XD) -Akercocke (newer albums) -Havoc Unit - HI.V+: Successor band of ...And Oceans, very varied output, but I think the band is probably Industrial and not so much Death. -Valborg: German Death Metal. As far as atmosphere is concerned there is no better Death Metal in my opinion. Also, I highly recommend most other bands, which release through http://www.zeitgeistermusic.com. Not all of it is Death Metal though. Progressive Metal: Highest Place - Dillemma's Swim the Mind - Waterfall Walls Leprous Dark Suns: Comparable to Pain of Salvation. Their latest LP "Orange" is actually almost completely devoid of Metal. El Doom & The Born Electric: Ihsahn: With Black Metal-elements. Indukti If you are interested in any kind of progressive music I recommend taking a look at http://www.babyblaue-seiten.de I guess that's enough for now. Maybe I'll post more recommendations later.

(nor is Ihsahn for that matter) I also contest your claim that there isn't "much innovation" to be found in their music, personally I think they manage to create a very robust and organic sound drawing influences from both Meshuggah and a little bit of metalcore (mostly in their earlier works). It's true that their sound may not be immediately recognizable like that of bands like, again, Meshuggah, but at the same time they're neither a rip-off of a pre-existing style nor are they just one in a pool of many, all doing the same derivative thing. Gojira are very solid and fairly creative, although one might argue that they rely a bit too much on chugging (but hey, then again so does Meshuggah at times). ![]() I like Gojira, I just wish they'd play a damn solo once in a while. So many songs get better with a climactic well timed solo, and that'd be true of Gojira as well.

I´m always looking for some good recommendations ![]() If Terminal Spirit Disease was simply longer, then I'd probably say that was their best. It was the ideal mixture of their older stuff and the more straightforwardness of Slaughter of the Soul. I think overall With Fear I Kiss the Burning Darkness is my favorite from them, though it was the least interesting to me when I was first getting into them. The Red in the Sky Is Ours is also pretty amazing but with a much more somber tone overall. The riffs are just soo good. No one did melodeath quite like At The Gates.

I didn't mean to say that their style is not innovative, just that it has not evolved a lot since "From Mars to Sirius". I'm also aware, that out of the bands I listed, Gojira is probably still the most well known one. Nevertheless, they are a good example for a progressive Death Metal Band, that I didn't want to leave out. But where you definitely caught me by surprise is that you classify Ihsahn as not an "obscure" band. By whose definition? I mean sure, in comparison to some of the other bands I posted, I guess you are right, but it's a stretch to call "Ihsahn" well known.

Ihsahn is certainly well known amongst metalheads that know their stuff. I mean sure he isn't Metallica level popular or anything, but he is definitely a legend, particularly for the genre he comes from/is associated with.
