>MorningMusume: The real question here is how did Jounetsu no Mariachi not hit #1.

And gosh, that new CNBlue song is really good.
And dear God, Kouya Yori is such a good song.

These days this song is spinning through my head again:

Can anyone here explain to me the whole Kouhaku anti-kpop thing? I don't follow kpop artists when they go to Japan, and I haven't followed Jpop at all in years.

What do you mean by this ? Hate towards K-pop in Japan ? As far as I can tell, Kara & stuff are selling a fucking huge number of discs and getting the top of the Oricon.
Maybe there is some hate on 2chan, but nothing really suprising to me since Japanese people tend to be a little xenophobic.

I think it has something to do with J-rock people hating K-pop the way rock fans and metalheads in America hate Justin Bieber.

kouhaku = end of year, 3-4 hour long music show in japan. a very big deal to be selected.

last year, no korean artists from this korean wave were selected despite having significant impact.
japan and korea don't have a good history and there's lot of xenophobia especially among the older generation.

therefore, i'm sure that selecting a kpop artist would incite the hyperconservatives which is why i want it to happen.

of course, there were some shoddy artists selected last year that i'm sure were only included as part of a package deal. i'm sure NYC appearing had some relationship to Arashi hosting and JE's wide reach in the industry.

and if you haven't heard, AKB48 and Terry Itou are hosting this year's Kouhaku. horray~

speaking of which i got that akb kaze song stuck in my head, making this only the 2nd akb song i like (ponytail no chu was catchy)

some random lives of kotoko (my fav. single form the album) and two-mix (been feeling nostalgic and watching an episode or two of GW)

Oh yeah Kouhaku, I didn't noticed. Still not too surprising for me.

Not really a fan of Tiara songs but she happens to do a really good job when it comes to collabs, like this one with Spontania
KG is another one of those who have the best collab songs... lol

Plus why is BoA's latest stuff in Japan is at least somewhat decent, while her most recent stuff in Korea is complete garbage...

A few years old(I think) concert by Perfume. Sorry if it's been posted here before.

Do any of you guys know if K-pop actually has mainstream presence in Japan, because a lot of nationalistic Japanese youths claim that ethnic Koreans in Japan buy lots of K-pop stuff to inflate sales. Korean media, however, always gives the impression that K-pop has a massive cultural presence, dominating charts, variety shows, and concerts.

Just like 50Cent allegedly bought thousands of his own copies to inflate his sales numbers

Anyways there a number of groups / singers that didn't need the so called "Hallyu Wave" to become popular. People like BoA, FT Island, DBSK, and most notably SuperNova (in which they're loved by Japanese people more than Koreans...) already had a foothold in Japan. Even actors / actresses like Ryu SiWon, Kim TaeHee, Choi JiWoo, and Bae YongJoon (the most popular out of everyone) have a ton of fans in Japan.
