Well to be fair, just about nothing outsells AKB48 except like . . . Arashi and older active Johnny groups, and other veteran groups and bands with strong fan bases built up over many years. So I guess the average Japanese adolescent or young adult would be aware of the top Kpop bands, like Kara and Girls Generation? | ||

Bunch of the Japanese exchange students were listening to an Ipod the other day.. passing around the headphones, so I asked what they were listening to and they were listening to some Kpop stuff. Didn't Kara have a drama a couple seasons ago too? about being undercover agents pretending to be a girl band breaking into Japan or something.. Can't remember if it was them or another Kpop group.. watched one episode and turned it off.. pretty awful. | ||
