All I'm saying is amount of variables does not equal randomness, those two things can be related but not in a simple and linear way. Because the entire point of mine is that the pack of teams under the 2 teams dominating this TI (and last one, at that) can't be entirely "good" because game is too random for that.

I saw a lot of Wings. They were a "can qualify" team only until they started grinding until their hands were numb. They were able to outgrind everyone, then got a really favorable Bracket at TI. (They were a couple of Classic Jimmy moments from being stuck in the Lower Bracket.) You have to understand that Wings figured out that you can pretty much always "cheese" a team with unknown combos. 7.00 nerfed Wings into the ground because their drafting advantage disappeared and, because they won, they weren't willing to grind so far. But, let it be said, Faith`bian had one of the greatest TI runs of all time. He found a personal level he almost assuredly could never repeat.

Poker has more variables but is actually less random if I understand it correctly, because high level players can work with the variables while noobs can't. Right, but this eventually becomes a problem for keeping things competitive. The higher the cap, the fewer people will be able to hit it, and so the smaller your pool of viable "top tier" players becomes. Arguably the similarity of the top teams between TI8/TI9 suggests Dota is close to maxing out its cap for maintaining a reasonable competitive scene... but at the same time there are so few professional games played, relatively speaking, that it would be ridiculous to say we can make that statement confidently. But if the results next year through the next year are as similar, maybe we get more confident about that guess.
