If Wings actually 2-0 DC with that Pudge/Techies, I'm not so sure DC make the lower bracket run that they did. For the sake of this tournament and the pub landscape, it was good that didn't happen.

He actually was entitled to the spot, the invite was for the 5 players, his invitation cannot be revoked. The substitute rule was put into place recently to rectify the situation, but at the time the only fair thing to do was to let Era play since fnatic qualified based on their results with Era not xcalibur.

the thing is, fnatic hat a legitimate reason to not play with era. was just shitty ruling by valve to stick to their rules without understanding what they are for.

rules are the rules though, at the time if valve made an exception then you'd have all sorts of teams trying to look to stealth kick players and pick up last minute additions or poaching players from other teams

Fear wasn't trying to play though was he? IIRC fear had basically accepted he couldn't play. Era on the hand wanted to play with his team. If fear actually wanted to play for eg Valve would have forced eg to let him play as well.

in the end rules are there for a reason though and dont stand on its own. the roster stability rule is to protect the players (all of them) and with valves terrible ruling on this they killed chances of the team (because no way they would perform after that) and destroyed eras career (because no way any decent team would take him after this). valves ruling did the opposite of what it was supposed to do, it did not protect anyone but harmed everyone involved. happens when you do rules without reason.

but you didnt even get my point, my point is that valve destroyed the career of the very player their rule should have protected. was stupid, valve learned by introducing substitutes for the next ti. sometimes they just need someone with half a brain to go over their selfrightous rulings.

There actually is, you have to play a certain amount of tournaments and win and have a track record of being a stable team.

With the way the rules were setup they had no choice but to enforce them as is, because if you started making exceptions then you have people who were going to start having extremely wealthy organizations like EHOME/iG/LGD/EG/etc. trying to poach the best players last minute.

they could have easily said that fnatic had a good case to not play with era because era was sick for months and months. it wasnt a stealth kick, fnatic played with the player they played most of the tournaments before ti and bootcamped with excalibur. in fact era didnt play any tournament for a long time there because he couldnt leave his home due to his condition.
valve could have just ruled that the 4 other players case is stronger than eras and it could not be abused at all. would just have protected era like they should have done, but they didnt and throw him under the bus. good guys valve.
