The best advice I can give is don't be selfish and adjust to the game.

What's the best way to deal with Chaos Knight / Phantom Lancer etc. Was in a game yesterday where I just had 7 Chaos Knights blink on top of me.. is there anything that dispels illusions or gives sight of the real one or anything like that? Or do you just need to start piling up AOE damage/effects to kill them all fast?

As Tinker I just spam March and rockets and eventually it cleans everything up. But as other heroes I have no idea. Typically I play Tinker, Sniper, Clockwerk, Abaddon, Storm Spirit, Ursa

Specific heroes interact well with illusions (think kunkka for tidebringer), otherwise AoE things like shivas (especially on tinker) are very helpful at figuring out the right one since the fakes take more damage.

Basically damage all of them and the tankiest one is real

Note that Medusa ult instagibs illusions afaik, and OD orb almost universally 1-shots illusions as well.

against PL ur goal is to kill him a lot before his illusions become relevant lol since before he has a lot of items his illusions actually do nothing.

LC overwelming odds is pretty good at a CD of 18 seconds. It does 25% damage to illusions in a big AOE.

There is no way to get true sight of the real one. There are some heroes with abilities that kill illusions instantly (lion mana drain, enchantress enchant are particularly good). If you are really having problems you can get mjolnir. Out of the heroes you listed:

sniper: get mjolnir, pray ck is bad enough to not just murder you first every time.
ursa: you can mjolnir i guess, but you are just going to have a bad time late game vs them no matter what you do. kill them a lot as soon as you get blink
abbadon: you should be focused on supporting teammates so moot point
storm: don't zip in until you know which one is real
clock: cogs kill illusions, but other then that clock isnt going to do shit. gank a lot at 6.

Protoss: Best, Paralyze, Jangbi, Nal_Ra || Terran: Oov, Boxer, Fantasy, Hiya|| Zerg: Yellow, Zero

So i saw NAR| brax go safelane solo brew, and get like a 7min blink with brown boots. was wondering if anyone could explain when this item build for brew is good, and when you should draft brew in the first place.

Naw dude if u blink earthshock with ursa u can discern the real one in a hurry. Storm is similar u can zip in and remnant + overload autos and then go on the real one. It depends how farmed u are obviously.

The rest are mostly right. Don't forget u outrange most shit as sniper and there are no natural ranged illusions heroes except TB so just maintain distance lol.

Brew usually wants a solo lane to get his ult asap, and while mid is the "traditional" lane it can be safelane or even offlane depending on lineups.

Blink + brown boots is fine if ur farming well and don't need to try to kill ur opponent. If ur not farming that well or really need to pressure ur opponents you'd probably upgrade ur boots. Phase synergize really well with the guaranteed crit but mana boots let u spam ur nuke a lot more. Note that at level 7 you can't actually clap -> ult without some sort of mana boost (okay 2 gg branches is enough) so brew is incredibly mana constrained. Without like a CM or Kotl or some shit you are gonna need either bottle (better as a mid hero) or mana boots IMO.

Brew is a fairly strong laner vs melee and a sick teamfight winner. Draft him when you need a ton of power from minute 8 to minute 20 since that's when he can Blink -> clap -> ult 1 vs 2 and still get a kill or even 2 and get out he's so strong lol. He's like a tidehunter in teamfights except instead of relying on his team for damage he does all the damage himself as well. and they lowered the CD on his ult

If the enemy was carrying a bottle with an illusion rune, the illusions it creates will always have an empty bottle. If you get a chance to click through them before any take damage sometimes that can help discern the real hero.

Obviously this isn't helping a lot with PL or CK but it's still slightly relevant.

I recently started playing captains draft whenever I ranked solo queue (~3000 mmr). For the most part I have found it much more enjoyable than ranked all-pick, both in terms of team mates being more communicative as well as having interesting, varied hero combinations.

However, I just looked at my record and so far it is abysmal. So I was wondering if anyone has pointers for captains draft (especially as a solo queuer)? Power-climbing ranks is not the biggest priority to me, but winning a little more would be nice.

I usually try to captain, but will let someone else if they insist. If not captain I will try to provide input during the draft. As captain, I generally try to give players the heros they ask for if I can think of a way that makes sense (under the assumption that they are likely to play better on heros they are most familiar with). Other than that I usually try to prioritize picking up the good supports from the pool early on. I would be interested to know if other cd players agree with these or not, and if there are other basic rules people follow when drafting.

They need to change the color so that you can actually see it, but the location is pretty good.

I am at around your MMR level, so I'm not sure in how far this advice will actually be helpful or correct, but CD is probably my favorite mode and it's been a long time since I lost a game in which I actually drafted. I largely agree with your points - i found that, at least at my level, it's super important that people are comfortable with the heroes they play. While I don't always draft what people want (although I try to go for it), i will often ask if they are ok with my choice or, if not, whether any alternatives work for them (which also tends to improve atmosphere) - "I want a tanky support, you okay with abaddon or tide?".

Beyond that, it tends to pay off to pick heroes which can be high-impact in a pub setting without requiring too much execution. Wraith King is probably the current prime example, but I also found Mirana supremely effective (yeah you need to land arrows but as long as you keep shooting them, some will land and people don't tend to pay nearly enough attention to the power of the ulti). If you want to draft heroes with higher skill requirements, make sure people can play them first (have had some bad experiences with Kunkkas who refuse to level/use X).

Only other rule I follow is to try and ban those heroes that can either completely take over the game if they snowball and thus ruin the whole strategy (nightstalker, storm, sometimes clinkz) or those that can splitpush me to death (as people tend to not be very good at playing against splitpush at my level): prophet most of all.

Why do lower level trilanes fail so badly? I'm at around 3.4K MMR and almost all trilanes that have been done vs a dual lane have failed either by:

- Carry not being able to farm well because one support goes off to pull while the other support can't zone the enemy dual lane easily
- Enemy team out levels your team because their supports are always higher level

What do these players need to do better in order for this to be more successful?

That is not a simple question simple answer

Simply put, pressure.
When it's a 3 v 2, the 3 needs to be able to kill the 2 heroes consistently and force them out of lane, then go pull/roam other lanes for more efficiency. The core of this is the "need to be able to kill the 2heroes". Without that kind of threat, just staying 3v2 in lane is not going to work and your going to fall behind, like you said.

A trilane with no ability to threaten kills is not a trilane. It's just going to ruin the laning stage. That is the major mistake I find most trilanes make.

Brown boots -> Blink is ok on safelane. Will have to be careful about your mana useage more and probably not a recommended build vs instant mana burners like nyx.

You can draft Brew pretty much anytime tbh. But the best is like a midgame oriented team because he falls off a bit lategame.

Only dangerous heroes are like Doom and Disruptor imo but even then they are not super hardcounters. Brew is a strong laner, and very easy to gank for. I found it strange that it took this long for him to get picked again and he is doing very well in the qualifiers. Initiation is such a big part of playing Dota and he's one of the best heroes in the game for just that so.
