You max static link, off points into ur passive, then you literally run at him and link him and if he jails u he gets slowed and you drain enough damage to win a right-click battle or a cs war and he can't drain ur mana enough to stop you using link since its 20 mana lol. Skip bottle and rush phase.

He can't even waste imprisonment to gain damage at will because if he does he can't approach creeps without you linking him. It's not pretty. U only need 1 or 2 points into ur passive then the lane phase is mostly over and you can get ur Q for nuke and farming/waveclear at like 8/9/10.

Its just all about getting off a good link since he can't approach wave if u do. The fact that you out-range him is very nice.

I am a newish player and trying to learn support.
For the first few games I was outperforming 90% of carries and had zero deaths couples times.
But after I hit level 3, I started to get into groups with non-english speakers for majority of the games.
Since then I haven't won a single game and fell to the middle of the pack in performance.
I have a basic understanding of the roles of a support from couple streams and pro vods.
I play with good map awareness and actively deny and block for my support.

I usually have a pretty easy time picking up games at a decent level.
Played in Cal-I, BW fish server C+, SC2 high masters 8+ seasons.
This is my first moba and it will take time.

I guess my question is, what would be the best way to communicate with the spanish speakers or get a game that has majority english speakers?

There are language options you can select in the queuing options where you select what server and game modes you play, but I'm guessing you select english already?

In which case your best bet is to play with others you know. There's a TLnet guild in game that you could try to gain access to (PM a mod) where you can try to get a group together. Sometimes you have to win without communication as well.

Last, but not least, you can ping and draw on the minimap to try to get your point across. Pinging the enemy carry and drawing a line from ur mid to him is a decent hint that you want a gank regardless of what language people speak

It's rather pointless to support people who won't watch the minimap and miss 3/4 of CS, carry maiden would do a better job. To be a decent support you have to get a decent grasp of other roles, learn all heroes, all items, last hit/deny, lane control.

Chat wheel if you don't understand their language, inhouse to guaranteed English speakers.

What's the best way to play storm spirit and how does he scale?

I tried to look up some builds but there are so many different ones and they're all different. In the early game I'm pretty decent at laning/ganking etc. but as the game goes on I feel more and more useless.

Can anyone point to a **GOOD storm spirit guide that I can look at?

Thanks

go ask in the stormspirit thread I'll get in trouble if i write out a long response here.

I'm not sure any of the stormspirit guides are really up-to-date and reflective of the current meta in pro and high-level games.

Basically you go bottle-treads-orchid and kill people Skill build usually Q/E/E/W/E/R/E/W/W/Q/R/Q/Q/W/Stats/R. 3 in pull is a "magic number" since it allows you to pull -> attack -> remnant -> attack and hit them with everything usually. The overload max build makes it easier to lane and has equal combo damage assuming you properly execute your ganks (Zip, hit, pull, hit, remnant, hit, zip, hit, zip, hit etc).

After orchid its situational but BKB is often absolutely required, then any and all of of hex/shiva/linkens finishes ur build.

Yes I have selected english speaker option.
Despite that being selected, I have been consistently getting non-english speakers.
Not to sound like a bigot, but majority of the non-english speakers are inconsiderate and often troll in outrageous fashion.
The few words of english they type are mostly insults and more than several times have I played an entire game with one of their mics giving off static/spanish music.
Teammates that I've been getting are bigger and bigger assholes by the level, maybe I'll have better luck on the weekends.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try to hit the TL guild up next time.

I don't know if you know about the mute function but it's incredibly convenient when it's obvious that they won't be communicating in a beneficial manner (static mics for example). If you open the scoreboard there's a little speaker icon next to each person's name and if u click it it goes red to indicated muted. You can mute whoever and no longer hear their voice or see their text, although pings still get through.
Personally I advocate muting early and often, you can always unmute later to see if things are better and its more important that you keep a good mindset than it is that you hear something from ur ally most of the time.

Better luck with your teams in the future dude

I quite like this guide. It's pretty old now but I think it's still relevant. The BKB first build is probably a bit out of date and orchid first is much more common (it's been buffed since then and the pace of the game changed a bit).
Basic: http://blip.tv/Nebu1a/dota-daily-144-1-storm-spirit-1-5583137
Advanced: http://blip.tv/Nebu1a/dota-daily-144-2-storm-spirit-2-5583245

The guide was Nebu1a (an old http://www.dotacommentaries.com/ caster). It spends a lot of time looking at the plays of X!! (now called MMY). Back then MMY was solomid for EHome and was considered the best storm player in the world.

I posted this in the LR thread, but let me post it again here since no one answered my question.

What is the reason for morphling's resurgence? Every game I've seen him win, its usually because the rest of the team is doing really well and creating space for morphling to farm his shit up while he has minimal impact aside from split pushing and teleporting with replicate. Until he gets linkens/bkb as well as an Eblade his teamfight contribution is pretty ordinary. I rarely see morphling games where the team makes a comeback from behind on the back of a farmed morphling.

Compared to most other carries, he requires much greater farm before he is ready to carry the team, but I'd argue that a lot of other carries will perform on par, with the same level of farm, while being much more useful than him at all stages of the game. Just compare him to Luna,SF, Lycan or void and he feels pretty underwhelming to me especially when pressured or slightly underfarmed.

Am I missing something obvious here? Please be gentle with your flames :D

well, he can basically one shot a support there's that. he's tanky as hell, but if you watch liquid vs nar in ti4 quals, ET is a pretty good lategame counter to him. others can expand on your question tho

Well, just about any hero's resurgence can often be explained with just meta shifts where heroes gets buffed and nerfed and eventually some team brings back hero X into meta and then other teams follow. Chances are he was never that bad before his resurgence, its just that team didnt use him.

Apart from that, he fits the new farming mid meta very well. There was a lot more "playmaker mids" before who now has been replaced with "carry mids" to some extent. Thats definitely one reason.

As for the strengths as hero - hes fucking hard to kill. Can escape over cliffs, can increase his health midfight (while stunned!) and teleport out is a pretty big deal. Dont really think theres an as strong lategame carry that has all those tools. And I guess the whole oneshot supports business is something else making him unique too.

he makes up for ordinary fighting strength with insane survivability. he can apply pressure to a team as well as a furion can, if not better and the fact that you cant really stop him from farming unless you win all 3 lanes means morph is guaranteed to start 1 shotting supports at the 30min mark. overall hes just way too versatile; theres really nothing hes actually bad at.
but yeah, the meta does have a lot to do with this as well. soon we will see am being picked the most when people start to remember that am destroys morph

Is there an effective way to make understand people that warding is really important as a support and that they should buy them everytime they are available ? I always got the "why don't you buy them?", and it pisses me so much because :
  • I want them to buy it so they learn how useful it is
  • Even if i buy them they never pick them up
  • If i buy and put them up myself that's admitting my defeat and these fuckers will act the same way in their future games because there will always be someone to buy those for them, if they don't they basically don't give a fuck since they do't even watch the minimap.

In the end that's why i often play support, just because every support at my level is incredibly selfish, greedy and rarely plays for the team. I want to pley new roles but i can't stand that behaviour 9 games out of 10.

What should i say to change their mind ?

Buy them and place them, then everytime you save your team from a gank because of the vision, you tell them that. Your third solution is better than the first two.

Thanks for the information, I am still getting used to the stream/valve UI.
Played a bit more after 8pm EST on my friend's account (he is significantly higher level).
One of the most pleasant teams I've ever had.
Everyone understood basic pings, most of the team tried to help me learn after I told them I am pretty new to the game, and I won a closely fought gank based games.
While I had an under .500 record once but, I initiated several key engagements that received praise from teammates.

Below 3k mmr advice :

Lol, they wont listen too you most of the time if they dont buy wards from the getgo in the trench anyway. These type of players will just leech xp and gold away from the carries most of time. Alot of players in the trench dont play frequent anyway or dont watch higher skilled games. Some people even find it offensive that you tell them what they could do better during a trenchgame. Even if you could convince these people to buy and use wards, alot of times they block your own junglecamps, have silly placements or will save that one ward for the lategame, you never know when it could come in handy!....

In CM people accept and execute supportroles a little better then in AP if the draft is descent and descently communicated. But I even ward my side of the map as a solomid or offlaner if the supports will not ward. Its just 150/200 gold and not such a big deal, as i tend to pick hero's that dont need much farm to be impactfull. I hope that above the 4k mmr these practises dont happen as frequently as i encounter them in the trench.

You can't educate all 7 million people who play dota. Get better yourself and you will play with better teammates who ward etc. Simple solution.
