Not really a strategy question, but I hope it's right here:
Is there a way to change your keybindings for an individual Hero? For example using QWER, change it so Rubik has the stolen spell in E instead of the passive while maintining the standard E for other Heroes? If this is possibel a link to a guide or an explanation would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!

There's no option currently to save keybindings for individual heroes. You're going to have to manually change it in the options every time you play certain heroes. I have a similar problem to yours in that I use legacy keys for every hero except Rubik. Fortunately for me its a lot simpler since I set my keys for rubik and can just uncheck the legacy keys tick box instead of going through all the keys.
You'll just have to remember to change your keys every time you play Rubik and change them back when your game is done.

Try to get the rune, it will massively help you in your gank. Most good mids will just bottlecrow anyway if they don't get rune so don't worry if you take it.

Then it comes down to experience knowing what your hero + your teams mid is able to do vs their midhero. I.E. Maybe you can gank a SF but not a puck. The easiest hero to gank for is definitely shadow shaman, it's a shame he isn't run mid so much anymore. It's really hard to gank for an SF unless you have a strong stun like vengefuls. So basically comes down to playing a lot of both mid and support to know when it's good. In the end, Dota is a game of experience.

Try your best, even Kuroky fails ganks sometimes.

- Know who you can gank. Storm (pre-6) or SF is easy for example. Puck and QoP hard. Invoker can be easy but check if hes wex or exort, get dust if wex.
- Feel free to smoke, the higher ranked you are the more needed. At lower ratings typically not needed.
- Important!!: Check creep equilibrium before you move. Ideally you want it to be above your own mids ramp so that you can hope the enemy mid goes down in the river and exposes himself. If its above the enemy mids ramp, dont bother.
- Know the mid heroes. You have a bloodseeker mid? Well, you might not wanna bother ganking then since he doesnt really have much he can help with. Invokers for example are really good to gank with though.
- Know your own hero and its strength. Very strong gankers are for example CM, Ogre, Veno. They have double disables or in venos case just a vero long one. Other descent are venge, sank king who just have one but still strong disables. But dont bother ganking unless it seems like an easy kill with bad ganking heroes like Silencer, Jakiro or the defensive supports like Tree, Abaddon, Dazzle.
- Communicate with your team if you're lower rating. Your mid might not be ready for it otherwise.
- Practice! Try and try again. Did you succeed? Great! Did you not? Consider why you didnt and remember it for next time.

Tree is an excellent ganker level 1 ~ 5. I can't count how many first bloods I got with tree with boot first.

Leech seed is a very good slow if you hit like a truck at level 1.

think mass clarities is a more stable starting option on tree than boot first

Ok, so this may not belong here; I was going to start a new thread on the strategy sections, but it seems almost completely bare except for hero guides, so I didn't want to put it in the wrong spot.

I'm a novice Dota player, and I want to improve. I have been spamming games as random, and I believe I'm not improving at all, really. I am a decent LoL player, and I'm having problems making the transition. My problem is that I have a hard time finding info for new players beyond the basics of the game. Most seem to advocate spamming random and trying to learn all the heroes. For me, I just click on the highest rated guide, and try to last hit. I'll try to sum up my problems in a few short points.

1) I don't understand Where I should be or What I should be doing. I mean, I can sit in a lane and last hit, but that's about as far as my knowledge goes. I don't know any of the nuances around keeping your lane pushed to your tower, and what to do after you kill your tower; Unless I'm a carry and should be sitting in the jungle farming creeps, I have no idea what to do after my tower falls.

2) I never really learn anything about the heroes I play or other heroes, really. I spend half the game trying to learn what the hero does, but I don't really know what I should be doing. For instance, I'll random into Crystal Maiden and then be in a lane with another support-y character and all of a sudden I'm lost. Also, even if I am in a lane with someone who I can support, I usually just end up getting yelled at (often in another language I can't understand).

This is what I was thinking of doing; Choosing a hero and spamming out games with him/her to try to get some kind of feel for the character and lanes/matchups as well as focusing on how the game plays out rather than struggling so hard in the early game. From there I can move on to other heroes/lanes and after I have an understanding of how to play each lane, move on from that starting point.

I'm hoping some people could suggest a lane/hero combo that's a good choice to learn the game and perhaps some good REAL beginners guides/VODs? I've tried watching some youtube videos from purge and a few others, but the way they explain what they're doing (if they do explain it) assumes a certain amount of skill already and don't bother to explain at a basic level what's going on in the game/why they're doing what they're doing.

Thanks, sorry again if this is in the wrong place.

You can't gank with mass clarity. If you want to gank at low levels, Treant more or less requires the boots MS advantage because of how low Leech Seed's cast range is.

Is there a place where I can see approximate matchups for popular mid heroes during the laning phase?

I'm used to seeing something like this for fighting game characters.

I'm sure there's a lot of controversy in both this and dota, but I'm sure there are some pretty well-known matchups like 'pudge > tinker' or 'ta > silencer' that I don't know about.

100*100 = 10,000 mid matchups dude. While obviously there aren't 100 viable mid heros, you'd be surprised just how many can go mid and crush "good" mids.

As in, not really unfortunately. Besides which things like getting pooled, getting ganked, or even just general skill level change EVERYTHING about a mid match-up.

For example, Razor literally cannot lose to Blood Seeker if you know what you are doing, but in lower-tier pubs BS's regularly shitstomp Razor's in lane on the way to a classic pubseeker victory.

He asked why not how.
And the answer is because he wants to be able to calculate if he will have enough mp for a play, with a quick look.

Having started with dota and then moved onto LoL, they have an interesting mechanic which I'm not too certain on. Basically along with any spells from the 4 abilities on your hero, you have 2 extra active spells which you can choose from a pool of 13 spells. I'm gonna list some of them (using their LoL names), and briefly describe them.

Spell (Dota equivalent/example) - description
Teleport (boots of travel/tp scroll) - teleport with 5min cooldown
Revive (buyback) - 9 minute cooldown no cost resurrection
Flash (Blink dagger) - 5 minute cd 700 range blink (that can be used after being attacked)
Clarity (Arcane boots) - restores nearby allies and self mana by 40% (180s cd)
Heal (Mekansm) - heals nearby allies and self hp by 90-495 (varies depending on level, 240s cd), can stack but with following heals healing only 50% of the first

Ghost (-) - 10second movement speed buff of 27% (210s cd)
Ignite (-) - deals 70-410 pure damage (based on level) over 5 seconds to one enemy. also reduces that enemy's healing/lifesteal by 50% over that duration (210s cd)
Cleanse (-) - removes all disables and debuffs (ignite not debuff) on yourself (can be cast while disabled) (210s cd)
Exhaust (-) - reduces attackspeed and MS by 30% and reduces all damage by 50% to one enemy hero (210s cd)

Imagine that the dota equivalents are removed (blink dagger, tpscrolls/boT, buyback, etc, heroes with blink like antimage are not removed, only the non-skill parts, also remove shadowblade and force staff for the sake of this discussion) and now you only get to choose 2 of the spells listed above.

Flash for 5 minutes cd seems ridiculously idiotic to get except maybe on champs for which the blink is crucial like earthshaker. teleport, revive, heal, all seem like good to get, cleanse seems really powerful for the carry or counter initiator to get and ignite/exhaust are really powerful anticarry skills

my question is, which skills would you choose? would you choose the flash for all of your heroes(because i don't quite understand why in lol flash is core for all 5 heroes, including a champion with a 3s cd blink ult in lategame)? The buyback/teleport back to team fight seems really core in dota, is it something you would pick(in LoL revive is never taken, teleport is situationally taken)?
