Ogre Magi offers a target slow, a target stun and AS/MS boost, so that technically has all he needs to last a laning stage as well as a well-rounded skillset after that as well.
The main issue with Ogre is that he is melee and has a trash mana pool. Sure, Sand King and Earthshaker are similar in that regard - but their stuns have an AoE and their ults make or break a teamfight. Alliance has used Ogre Magi a few times to buff the Lone Druid Bear summon to improve siege potential but he is a bit lackluster without Mana Boots early (for sustenance) and later on Aghanim's Scepter - and you just won't find that farm with his literally non-existent flash farm capabilities (he cana't blow up a creep wave and join his team etc) so that's where he falls.

So what the deal with this whole Lycan mid lately popularized by EG? Isnt it easily punish with a counter pick like Viper or Razor mid? Without being able to go mid, then doesnt that mean that Lycan fall into the same problem the hero previously had which was being able to find a lane? Leading him to not be able to push effectively in the mid game.
Not quiet sure if this question a bit too complex for this topic or not

You don't need to put him mid. Strong counter, jungle or safe lane.

Everytime I saw it they could have/did pick another mid but there was no counterpick so they put him mid. Lycan really likes levels, his wolves can be handy mid with bottle and his trilane contribution is basically howl which is global. So I guess why not run him mid?

Lycan has very poor lane presence, wouldnt he be rather poor for tri lane? I mean if other team just went standard carry such as Luna or Gyro, wouldnt having lycan in the lane be very susceptible to aggro trilane?
Regarding his jungle, isnt his jungling pretty poor after the nerf to his jungling which is why he wasnt played a lot before in the first place? Or did people learn how that jungling with him isnt so bad therefore even if he get counter mid, they can put him in the jungle? Also putting him in jungle make your tri lane weak as well since it will create alot of space for the enemy offlaner since they dont have to deal with trilanes. I mean he not like a chen or enchantress who can really be aggressive while in the jungle or does that not matter?

Nah, Lycan feels great in 3v3 situations. Only trilane which can burn Lycan is Luna with Visage and other agressive range support just because of their ridiculous damage output.
And Lycan can freely lasthit with wolves, he has howl and his base damage is jokingly high, so if you have some kind of cc on lane, this lane will wreck 99/100 times. 2v2 Lycan is good as well, not so sure about 1v1, but if you don't put him against OD, Viper or Razor, i guess he will feel okay in worst case.

Mid Ogre is legit, especially with new aghanim scepter which is just op. Thing is that Ogre is weak in 3v3 situations, you can pick him in almost every 2v2 and win, but 3v3 is other story. + He's quite item dependant, so it's waste of slot usually, when you can fill it with something like CM/Lina or other support.
Alliance were picking him a bit in comp with Lone Druid, other teams not so much.

To add, his E skill is one of the main reasons why you could choose him over other supports depending on your lineup. E-skill gives a free hyperstone+ yasha movementspeed. The skill was buffed somewhere in 6.xx so that before a teamfight starts, you can buff mutiple hero's. I find him best compatible with str hero's tiny, DK, lifestealer, WK etcetc.

Honestly that's what makes Lycan strong right now is that while all of these options aren't fool-proof, it's impossible to draft in such a way that covers all your bases, so as long as the team drafting Lycan is willing to adapt, they will find some way to make him work that you can't respond to.

I was playing ranked CM and got DS in the offlane, i matched up with a ember + AA lane. i traded cs with him via ion shell and the AA keeps harassing me but cant kill me.
my question is, when do i leave the lane? if i leave the lane ember would have absolute free farm. when do i disengage 'laning phase'? i bought a tp just incase a fight broke out in other lanes (happened when i was around level 8) and then didn't return in the lane.

I assume, that Ember maxed flame guard, if you survived the lane. You can just rotate with team after getting basic items like mek/drums and push towers, bait AA ult, retreat, then attack.
Because Ember is very volatile hero. You basically need to oneshot someone to be useful as carry, else you're either getting burst 100-0 because you're not getting bkb early, or you're just hitting chains and provide almost no damage in midgame to team with heals who can bait AA.

The correct answer is: when your team needs you to. There's no real answer to when you should stop laning, as it will differ greatly from am to game. But when you're needed elsewhere, thats a good indication that you should be..well: elsewhere.
Keeping a tp on you in case a fight breaks out in another lane is something no one ever does..and will net you tons of kills and games, so keep that up. Nothing is more frustrating than having someone dive two towers after you, and no one on your team has a tp on them.

You should look to get lvl 11 for your second point in illusion wall and four points in vacuum. The second point in your ultimate allows you to put the wall somewhere else than right under your feet and vacuum is just a very strong teamfight spell in general.
After you got those you don't need to farm anymore. You still can, because Dark Seer is very fast at farming, but without those 2 skills you are just a glorified ion shell dispenser.
So is at least the theory.

Is there a current guide on 2/1/2 laning lineups? I'm looking to try some out, and wanted to read up on them beforehand.

Is it still true that language settings take preference over MMR? ie. I select Chinese I get matched with other people who select Chinese?

..."take preference" is a funny way of putting it. Of course the system is designed to give you teammates/enemies who have selected the same language preference and server.
Edited out my poor example.

MMR > Language. But if MMR is somewhat close it chooses language. Say 1.5k MMR difference or something.

A) I don't think this is at all accurate B) The system is far more complex that you are giving it credit for here. The matchmaker is taking thousands or tens of thousands of accounts that are online and queuing and attempting to group them in to sets of 5/10 based on an enormous variety of factors. The primary job of the matchmaker is to find you Matches. Fair matches are the goal but time is also of the essence. The longer the matchmaker spends with you in it's pool, the more likely it is to accept a less-fair match for you. Language is another goal that the matchmaker becomes more likely to give up on once the time range grows a certain amount. Nobody is really certain at what point the matchmaker decides "screw language have a fair (even MMR) game" or "Screw fairness have a same-language game" Obviously the matchmaker will never say "screw your selected server/modes" so at least we know that is set in stone.

where can i download replays that are not my games ? i know the ID number of the game though
|
Under the watch tab in-game. You should be able to filter by match ID. Note that the server stops keeping these games after a certain amount of time (30 days I think?) so if it is an old replay it will only be available if it is associated with a tournament ticket.
