All -resist is coded as % amplification. It's actually a total misnomer to call them -resist.

It's because of engine limitations of wc3, unless I am completely misremembering. You can't temporarily remove hero magic resistance in wc3.

If it was possible Icefrog would have implemented the skills like he labeled them.

You can, but it's really clunky, hard to do, and has a lot of edge cases you have to worry about.

how does bristleback's less damage from side/back thingy work with damage over time debuffs such as battle hunger?

Bristleback reduces any damage received if your back is facing the hero that is giving you the damage. It doesn't actually matter where the projectile/whatever is coming from as long as your back is facing the hero.

In your specific example, as long as you have your back facing Axe, no matter where he is on the map, the damage reduction will apply.

What happens if Axe Battle Hungers you, then Axe dies?

My gut feeling says the death location of axe counts as if he didn't die.
As heroes flicker at their death lcoation for a millisecond before respawning, that would be the most obvious.

The other options would be Axe's fountain or the 2 more absurd options It always/never counts as facing Axe.
Can't test right now, so someone else has to verify.

Does anyone else read Axe's name in Axe's voice every single time?

Axe is in Belisarius's head.

What's with all the supports getting randomly timed Midases in WPC? In one game an 0-1-1 Crystal Maiden on the losing team bought a 13 minute Midas. Her team lacked an urn, a force staff, manaboots, pipe, blink dagger, gem, vlads, medalion, eul's, veil, diffusal, orchid, vyse, etc, and she decided Midas was the most impactful item she could afk-farm for. I don't get it. In the same game the 0-4-3 support Naga with treads bracer bought a 25 minute Midas. Of the items I said their team lacked earlier, they had only gained a Force Staff in this time (CM used her Midas to farm treads and two gauntlets). They lost the game nine minutes later, because Necro3 CM and Necro1 Naga couldn't carry hard enough. I could sort of understand LGD.int padding an early lead in a WPC game with some support Midases, but supports afk-farming Midases while losing horribly?

They've been running some absolutely bizarre dual lanes as well, running solo heroes along side other solo heroes together, etc. The worst one was a Titan Furion lane, where all the Furion did was leech xp, feed xp with Treants, and he may have died as well, I forget.

There's been a lot of questionable decision making in the tournament: some silly item and skill builds, drafts, and tactics all over the place. My favourite questionable decision was some support Nyx refusing to enter the lane while the triple ranged Luna aggro tri racked up kills on his pseudo carry and other support, insisting instead to spend several minutes trying to deward the pull-camp; as if they had anything to gain by pulling in that scenario anyway.

What's going on?

It's impossible to tell what exactly caused the Midas Dota, but here's my 2 cents (copy pasted from my post on reddit):
It's really complecated to explain why supports are allowed to go for midas without a base case, so let me use 6.78 Invoker or Nature's Prophet as an example:

These heros can afford to go for a midas, even a delayed midas, because they contribute without items early on, but need a massive amount of items late game to feel the same impact. This means that even if you do something like 14 minute midas after phase, it's still worth it.

So, let's take into consideration what a support in dota is: Supports contribute early on and keep your team together without the need for gold, but (typically) fall of late game hard. Now before this patch, one could not afford to make such a big investment without giving up wards, smoke, etc.

However, passive gold being increased in the last patch changes this. Supports can get what they need and a little bit more off of just existing, and because they fall off lategame so hard, they need a boost to feel relevant. This isn't even gold that comes at a risk, it's gold that will be there EVERY SINGLE GAME NO MATTER WHAT. Normally, supports would get a huge gold swing from fights and invest it in a small item because they had no clue if they would get another swing like that. Look at Misery's CM. Normally, CM isn't even a hero late game, but when you have BKB+Hex, now that's something you have to consider!

This is all just my guess, obviously, but it's the conclusion I've drawn. Oh, also it helps get them 5-necro-3s up.

Why get Midas when you're losing? Probably because the LGD teams are showing more midas = more victory and the other teams don't quite understand why yet, they're just going for it because they see they're losing to it.
I put the sexy in dyslexia.

I see. That reasoning makes sense, though I somehow doubt it'll be a lasting trend/strategy. If for no other reason than that a team playing so passively to guarantee their supports to build up 1400 gold is probably giving up a lot or that a support focusing on building that recipe might out of overcaution be less impactful.

If it does stick then Icefrog will have gotten the exact opposite out of his intended changes to the metagame. Random Roshan time is supposed to make teams less passive and fight, since they never know when Roshan will come up, but results in teams just being even more passive. Greater passive gold rate is supposed to help supports be more active without fear or to compensate for nerfing the jungle, but now the supports are using the gold to passively farm Midases to get the gold and levels pulling/stacking would previously have garnered.

I wonder how far the mass Necro3 strategies will go too. Carries that aren't Lycan (because it's viable on him as is) might have to rush Necro3 just so their team has one first!

If you double tap your dagger, where do you end up?

It doesn't seem to be in a straight line in front of you, is it just a random point at max range?

Why do people keep calling Dota "doto"? I'm sure it's a meme of some kind, but every time I read it, I get an urge to correct someone because I don't know the story.

Afaik, singsing started it when he started making 'bamboedoto' comments on his stream, and everyone started copying him.

Midas also is reliable gold. Not lost upon death and if you do have to buyback and use Midas you still get that gold.
