He's talking about the old passive on the boots, not the active heal. At least, I think so.

what is the best hero to start with in the current meta, if someone is new to offlane solo? Dark seer may be?

Is there any good resources I can refer to?

What is the most effective way to practice offlane solo vs tri lane? Since at my skill level people are still running dual lane.

Dark seer is good, but I'd personally recommend weave since I think it's a more fun hero. In a 1v2 situation you can often times find a kill on a support with germinate an shakuchi harass if they make a mistake while your ahead in levels. 1v3 they will be much more efficient at denying you exp so don't feel bad if you're sitting out of exp range while the wave near their tower still, you can still be creep blocking to try to mess with the equilibrium to get the lane to push.

You can join inhouses (check the header on tlih thread) or play captains mode since tris are usually run there.

Dont bother with trying to learn how to play against trilanes too much yet. If the new patch is legit were all gonna need time to get used to changes, and one of them will be the disappearance of 1v3 trilanes

I'm fairly new to offlane and enjoy windrunner quite a bit. You're not exactly a high impact offlaner like a clock or ET, but you bring a consistent set of disables and a fair portion of damage to your team in the midgame fairly consistently. What sells windrunner as an offlane though is how safe she is; Windrun is an incredible escape ability that basically means they've got to hit you with a stun after you windrun to kill you. Fortunately, them being able to do that is something that you control, so with a little ward coverage and barring unforseen circumstances, your worst case scenario is that you don't die, are of fair level, and have a handful of cs at the 10 minute mark.

She's also prone to building quite a few utility items, like orchid / mek / urn / forcestaff, as she doesn't need an aghanims or blink to be effective. This means she's versatile.

Oh, and protip - be sure to scream LIGHTOFHEAVENNNNNNNNNN whenever you throw a shackle. It's actually coded into the shackle mechanics - it very often won't latch if you don't.

Hard to lane, doesn't offer anything except a bit of damage and Global Silence every couple minutes. Any time you think about Silencer there's almost certainly a better support out there.

You're probably right. The current are "attack instances", which creeps don't count as. But the new ones just state "attack or be attacked". That sucks majorly. Still useful on supports though, like you said.

Creep attacks actually did count on tranquil boots. The threshold was taking twenty damage or more post reduction.

Not quite. Yes, its true that creeps don't count as damage instances because they don't do enough damage. But tranquils are currently not affected by neutral creeps, lane creeps (regular and mega) or towers. If you use them, the heal will be canceled by anything other than lanecreeps though.

The hard camp will do enough damage to break your tranquils unless it is trolls (piercing damage on hero armor makes them do less than 20 damage post reduction including the armor from the boots). Alternately you can spawn an enemy slardar to reduce your armor and make everything do >20 damage to you and break them with anything.

No. I just tested this. Ancients doesn't break them either. It has to be hero damage.

I just tested it, and even ranged small camps will break the new tranquil.

Whether tranqils break was never a question.
I think only 1 person was talking about the active heal part being broken, when everyone else ist just talking about the green boots turning brown.

Tranqils boots are now armor boots to me. Plenty of heros that need those, even when they don't healing.

They make awesome cheap roaming boots now. Heal up between lanes while having super fast movespeed. I expect to see them on supports much more often now.

Earthshaker, can he be a viable offlaner?

this implies that for whatever reason he can't be in his wet-dream scenario of a trilane

No, weaver is not a good offlane unless youre playing vs incompetant players or a really weak, poorly run tri lane. It's a carry hero who demands a good start and doesnt farm particularly well, I dont know why ppl think hes a good solo offlane

why's he hard to lane with? He's got quick attack anim, last word has good range + low mana cost, and curse of the silent can really drain the mana of heroes who shouldn't be spamming spells early/mid game (lina, tiny, earthshaker).
Also, I feel that his global silence would complement puck, riki and doom well because of potential "chain silencing", also it seems like a reliable way to initiate teamfights.
And yeah, there are probably better supports for most drafts, but I still feel he'd be a good asset against int-heavy + spell dependent drafts.

This thread is dedicated to that discussion about Silencer. But in short he lacks stuns/burst that wins tri vs. tri fights. As a support he is very poor for ganks for the same reason. For the mid role he is a decent laner, most obvious downside is lack of ganking abilities so burst and stuns. Also without escape he is somewhat vulnurable to ganks.

Global silence is an amazing teamfight spell, he wins the fights singlehandedly vs many initiation combos, but in current meta teamfights have given way to splitpushers and general "rat-dota" so he doesn't quite have the utility that he might have had in TI2 meta or so. Will be interesting to see how the 6.79 patch, that seems to aim more action/fights and less splitpushing and other "non-entertaining" play, will affect his utility. It might be that he becomes a pretty often seen pick then, but that's pretty hard to say right now.

Was talking about the old tranquils, and I was talking about the boots breaking, not the heal. I was very clear about this. Amazing how people just read the last post and then go ahead and presume what the topic is about.

This is the big thing imo. Silencer did see occasional play when he was first introduced, but as teams started focusing more on split push, map control, and heroes who could fight more frequently his usefulness declined. The silence is still amazing vs teamfight compositions, but it's not really how teams play now.

I disagree with the tri lane part though. In the right situations I think tri vs tri can be one of silencer's strong points. If you're facing a tri lane that lacks cheap ways to get rid of curse and last word, you can quickly wear out the enemy lane or force them to use stuns and nukes on creeps instead of your heroes.
