Competitively I see it only picked up by dedicated split pushers who want to infinitely stall waves with the 30 second cd. Hate orchids agh in pubs. Let's pick up 2 items that make me useless against bkb/easily locked down. If dendi goes situational orchid into bkb->hex in pubs, it's good enough for me.

I know this is very situation and hero dependent, but are there any general rules as to whether to place them in our forest or theirs? I know the general ward locations I'm just thinking more strategy-wise (like if we have a solo hard laner, should I ward the enemy forest to help him, or just ward our forest?) It's a good idea to give your offlane the wards, whether or not you go there yourself. Especially dire offlane can ward the magic bush(block 2 neut. camps with 1 ward) and then have a ward that both covers the bottom rune and give vision to protect from ganking. If you have a decently strong duo offlane though, it's absolutely ok to just put standardt rune wards.

It's not really that good this version because the picks don't suit it. It was really common in like 6.73/6.74 DotA 1 when teams were playing like TC/Tide/AA/Shaker/DS/etc. AoE craziness and it just comboed with everything else.

How do I deal with Doom's ult and how would you counter pick/ shut him down early so he doesn't become impossible to deal with? More broadly: how do I find out how to play against certain heroes/abilities. It's pretty easy to find information on how to play a certain hero, but not how you deal with them. As a fairly new dota player I find this very difficult since a silence != silence, stun != stun, shackle != shackle and there doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern.

Even weaver cannot do anything except shukuchi but he gets dismember invis too That's what I'm doing, but there's still ~0.5s delay and pretty much every third hero has some way of escaping it.

the CD + your blink also allows you to be splitpush heavy, and you're still able to join your team after pushing out the creepwave orchid qop isn't good when your team isn't able to shut down their carries' farms, or when you're not snowballing because they're guaranteed an early bkb/manta. however if you're snowballing out of control, the damage amp is just too good to not get aghs after

There is no easy way. The 2 (hard) ways are: 1: Experience: See the hero played well and still beaten. Identify how this happened from the replay. 2: Theorycraft: Look at the hero and his spells and stats. Think very hard. Do some math. Apply experience(see 1). Come up with a weakness. Resources for theorycraft could for example be Playdota: heroes, items, units. Those should cover 90% of the things you will ever need. Weaknesses of doom and silencer include: weak ganking, reliant on grouping as 5, their teamfight ability gets a lot weaker without ultis, mediocre mobility. Doom has weak laning/early phase, silencer is weak solo for large parts of the game. So in long words + Show Spoiler + -baiting out global silence and/or doom without someone of your team dying and none of your team's important spells being wasted will make teamfights a lot easier. Urn/Mek/Pipe are all very helpful to reduce or heal damage from doom. -playing the teamfight avoidance game(also known as ratdota) will abuse their low mobility. If they push a tower, you and your teammates can push the other 2 lanes respectively. Pubs are usually really bad at this, so try at your own risk. -gank better. Many small skirmishes all over the map are your friend. Very few heroes are worse in 1v1 and 2v2 situations than doom and/or silencer. They are even worse when you have the superior numbers on them. Doom is naturally tanky though, so if you don't have enough lockdown/damage it is possible he will survive by simply running back. Silencer on the other hand is pretty much food if caught out of position. Keep in mind that timing also exists. Depending on your hero(or your team's lineup vs. enemy lineup) that you have a window of opportunity in which you are far more powerful than your enemies. Generally you have to gain as big an advantage as you get in that time or lose later in varying degrees of horribleness. The reverse is also possible, your enemies having the timing window in which you have to avoid feeding as much as possible.
