EG has a winning formula: lane domination into snowball. They also have a unique pick: support naga. So I don't worry too much as long as they are in the UB. It doesn't really make a difference whether your opponent is LFY, Newbee, VP, OG or IG.

Yeah, I think support naga will be big in the elimination stage.

OK guys so the main stream is hyping tie breakers but it's not possible b/c Newbie will be 2nd which means they will face our boys EG in round 1 of playoffs b/c LFY will definitely choose to play TNC. Here's the final bracket with everything added to show final results. Enjoy!

Today's games with Fnatic were righteous stomps, it's a good sign when the team doesn't skip a beat against a weak opponent. I can't wait for the main event

Thats a good call mate

EG are looking real good, win in against every team.
And the losses werent to bad either.
I feel they go into the Main event with a draft advantage... zai and crit both so versatile. sumail, uni and rtz all on point it seems.
SO EXCITED!!! :D Go boys~

Doesn't EG have a pretty good record against this newbie team? I feel like they played each other quiet often during the season and most of the times EG came out victorious

You are right, in the last 12 months they have encountered 8 times, and EG won 5 of them, 3 of those wins being in finals (Mars Dota2 League, China Top and Manila Masters), also beat Newbee 2-0 at Kiev major, the Newbee wins were less important.
I would say EG has both a mental and a draft advantage against Newbee, but Newbee are very skilled players, gonna be good matches

I think EG had a solid group stage. Watching their games, you could tell they were becoming more confident in drafts they wanted to execute.

I think the bans will be very telling against Newbee; particularly Kaka's bans. I think his Nyx warrants one with how much he destroyed VP with it (Game 1).

He had Mirana Necro
While Sccc got Od/QoP

More comfort
Won mid both games
Proceeded to have larger impact by far both games

Time to draft around Suma1l next ?

Out drafted and out played this round, but newbee are possibly the strongest team in the tournament. I can see eg making it through liquid and then maybe one of the lgds

i'm kinda sad being an EG fan right now, not just because of their performance, but the direction the captain has taken for their team.

i'm not sure if it''s a strategy (I think it's intentional) but i think going forward EG are attempting to make the draft highly ambiguous so the other team can't figure out who plays what role. it's an interesting concept but also risky. they allowed everyone to play a different hero in the same type of draft in the group stage. for example, one game you'll see bat rider bot lane for universe, then it's crit playing support bat. the mirana switch off as well. overtime both support oriented heroes in the past are now switched as carry roles (nothing new) but switched around with WHO plays it. it keeps the opponent guessing which i think is their new evolution. (PPD hinted in the past about how everyone should learn every role.)

But on the other end of the spectrum, their pool seems more...limited....and their drafts aren't as strong...it's an EG draft but it's not a draft that's strong vs the opponents.
i'm not sure if it's only me but it seems the west try to out think themselves in the drafting phase...and this meta it works against them. In previous tournaments relying on all time strong drafts got you in trouble for being predictable but now, this meta it has the opposite effect.

At this point i wouldn't be surprised if they lost to empire...rtz hasn't had one game where i had confidence in him. it never crossed my mind in all his games that if shit hit the fan and he had time to farm, he would make up the difference if sumail failed or if universe couldn't pull off the big initiations. not to mention, i think this is the very first time i've ever seen universe die in the offlane in a 1v1 scenario. that's a really bad sign.

i think you are selling them short. they had some pogchamps against newbee. they had leads in both games. sometimes you get baited and dont press BKB. sometimes a neutral creep gets the last hit. sometimes you catch the od but wipe to disruptor and veno.

they could lose to empire today, or secret/liquid tomorrow, but the boys are the boys. they are legit good. i expect them to pull through.

One thing I don't understand is why sumail is building DPS Miranda from the start. I think he should be building agha blink, before transitioning into DPS. He needs the agha to farm faster as well as maintain tempo. DPS from the get go is too slow

I don't understand why EG is ditching Io. It gives them a draft advantage similar to Liquid, but has been completely ignored except for the final game against Fnatic.

While there may be large issues with the draft, the issue that keeps frustrating me is how EG seems to have have never developed a consistent sense of when they don't need to force or hunt fights ever since ppd left. A consistent theme in the ppd-era EG was their emphasis on establishing game-winning leads in items/net worth/map control to buffer them from losing a few fights without giving up the initiative.

Sure, EG still saw red and got hungry when taking fights like the one forced in game1 vs Newbee under Newbee's T2 with song that were high-risk, but it happened less; and they usually had much more of a "lead" or margin of error. Of course replacing ppd in that respect is difficult, but I don't think it bodes well that they have never developed any consistency in avoiding this problem; and it cost them deeply against Newbee - on the biggest and most important stage of the year.
