This is going to sound weird in a way that I don't particularly intend, but here goes.

+ Show Spoiler [holy shit this ended up novel-length] +
Valve's start with Dota 2 and the International was a direct attempt from them to help professional players benefit from some of the value that they generate in the community. Pennants and tournament tickets were a continuation of their attempts to essentially create a conduit for the community to funnel money into some of the valuable members, aka pros. The workshop is a similar thing although the valuable members in question there are not pros.

Regardless, by and large valve have successfully created an ecosystem whereby a professional player can extract enough value from the community that it is inherently worth it for them to focus their attention on bringing in value and building the scene. Now, I suspect that if you ask valve, they aren't content with the current system but they are pleased with some aspects of it. However, very few of these systems currently are in place for CS:GO.

When CSGO got going and pro's started transitioning to it from both 1.6 and source, existing pros were much like existing Dota 1 pros. While the CS scene in Europe definitely offered more to professionals than the Dota Scene, by and large the idea of going pro in CS really meant earning a pittance playing in tournaments, and a pittance from sponsorship organizations. Streaming wasn't very big so there wasn't money to be made there, and all in all pros simply weren't making much cash. But they were making more than in Dota, and Valve wasn't invested in CS:GO as they were with Dota 2. Hidden Path studios wrote the original game, for example (I think, i may be slightly off on a few facts with respect to early CSGO but the situation i'm describing is essentially correct). The game itself floundered badly for a variety of reasons up until the introduction of the Arms Deal (or whatever) update that introduced the now-ubiquitous skins.

Before the Arms Deal update, Valve wasn't making a ton of money off of CSGO. As intelligent gamers can tell by now, selling a game for a flat price and then maintaining it isn't a winning business model anymore unless you sell a new version every year. When your flat price is like $20 or so, its just awful. When valve isn't making money from the game, it's hard for them to create revenue streams that reward the professional players bringing their value into the community. The introduction of skins of course created a huge inflow of money for Valve, which in turn allowed them to start thinking about how to then shift a proportionate amount of that value to the players. Basically they fucking failed and the value in the community from skins etc far outstripped the reward system valve managed to implement for professional players (especially since valve's pro-reward system was horrendously narrow in terms of who benefitted). So the value that the pro's were generating was being realized primarly in the skin betting scene and unsurprisingly players started to look for ways to extract some of the value that they were putting on to that specific system. It's hard to argue that players who make almost no money off the game but provide entertainment etc shouldn't be betting using their superior game knowledge and team familiarity to generate some sort of return for themselves. However, that mindset eventually led to the slippery slope that has caused such issues recently. Yes, throwing is completely different from using the inside knowledge that say "Player X is sick and so team Y will underperform" but once players realized that they could make thousands of dollars off of betting and there wasn't anything stopping them or limiting them, it was only a matter of time until that slope was slipped down.

Alright that got longwinded so i kinda cut it short but TLDR is that valve's arms deal update allowed pros to introduce so much value to the game through skins betting and yet their reward system was so lackluster that it kinda was inevitable that this shit happened as sad as it is.

Its prefab housing and developments. It is easier to design 1 house and build it 20 times as an investor and put minor differences in. Those can be really hit or miss. I have friends to bought one and love it. But another couple's has had to do repairs on their unit because the contractors stopped getting paid for a couple weeks and did shit work. And they sometimes have title issues too.

Kids need to learn the pitfalls of first time home ownership. Those classes cost a lot and don't teach you the merit of the duplex and renting to off set your mortgage costs.

technically if you qualified for the loan in the first place you should have enough to pay it off every month
i might be biased because i work in this field, but i think a mortgage is a great investment and money-making tool (assuming you live in an area where real estate prices are stable, are mildly increasing, and turnover is not sluggish).

if you're paying 2k a month for rent on a single family residence, why not just buy a house and pay 2k a month for your mortgage? your costs are the same and they money you pay goes into the house you can sell later on in life for net gain. shit's like a savings account that pays out ~3% interest per year (much more if you're in an area where real estate prices are appreciating).
Only thing you really have to worry about is if your assessment is high and you pay through the nose for property tax, but even then i feel the benefits far outweigh the detriments.

so for people considering first time home ownership i'd say go for it, worst thing that can happen is you have to sell your house if you can't make ends meet.

Apparently PPD got some sort of food poisoning while in China Thank god for days off.

Edit: No the worst that happens is that you can't sell and I foreclose and evict you.(J/K, I can't, its a conflict if interest).

wow i experienced this in my neighborhood. not prefab but almost the same
the developer had great houses in the first phase of their project, but as it got to the end they moved all their experienced contractors to work on a new project down a couple blocks
so the houses in the last couple phases had all sorts of weird construction quirks/errors that don't really get noticed until people move into them (sometimes the corner seams on walls aren't straight or exactly 90 degrees, grouting colors are mismatched, interior paint is shoddy, the special paint coating for the bathroom isn't done correctly, etc)

on the brighter side, a lot of new houses these days (in cali at least) are PUDs which means they're regular single unit detached houses with a homeowner's association, so a lot of those problems that arise from shoddy work can often be fixed by calling your HOA.

well that's not even part of my scenario it's your fault you chose an awful neighborhood lmao
and in my experience, foreclosure is often much more expensive for the lender than to just renegotiate the terms of the loan.

Rave is 2 matches away from getting the same place as Orange.

Also, first pinoy team in a big tournament and they are doing quite well.(well, there was TI1 but that was 4 years ago)

Also, dota is enormous there.

Renting is totally valid and people should not be rushing to own a house. There is a lot of work and weird shit can happen, like your well pump giving out or water heater exploding(both happened this year). You get to spend your weekend moving snow and removing it from the roof of your house.

On the other hand, you can tell people to get off your lawn.

wtf i've never even heard about that happening here
might be because cali laws are so anal retentive about everything, we have to sign water heater disclosures & certification during transactions

btw you should consider upgrading to a tankless water heater

Water heaters break down every 10 years or so, tankless or otherwise. Same with well pumps, but those take 30. Its the nature of home ownership, you need to replace shit.
