Naughty Dog has cinematic tech, amazing visuals and good writing. But they also have some sort of lack luster encounter design. Every developer has their weak points and it’s often due to some specific talent missing in their staff. Dragon Age and "talented" writers? Need I remind you of ME3, and that one person who went on record saying that she didn't understand why people wanted to actually play the games, rather than just click through dialog options. To them having good dialog means forcing every party member to try and romance you so you can have some sweet, barely not 3edgy5mainstream gay romances.

I am all about options for people to skip combat if they want. Its their game. If they don't want to play the combat and are there for the story, I have no problem with them doing that. We have a button to skip cut dialog. Just put it in the difficulty options and let people do what they want. And ME3 was a mess up, but it happens. People make mistakes. They lost sight of why people came to the game and what made the final mission of ME2 so memorable and the best finally of game to date. If that ending had been the same, but built up with a bombastic romp across earth with every party member doing awesome shit, people would have been happier.

Also dead space sucked. The sidequests in that game were amazing. You actively want to find sidequests because you know there will be a story or some witty writing worth playing for.

I know, I did most of what I can right now. There's a few more unsolved question marks in areas I have access to which really bothers me, but those are mostly giant monsters that I can't beat for another 10 levels. Do you actually deal less damage to monsters they've decided are overleveled for you? It feels like it.

You scratch enemies that are +5-10 levels ahead of you but as soon as you are equal or like 1-2 levels behind you start dealing way more damage and don't die in one hit.

And you don't have the armor to take extra hits.

If they had any actually talented authors, I might see a point here, but not DA2 and ME3 tier writing. :D These days they're generally awful with accidental moments of glory, like that party questline in ME3 where you get to fuck bad guys up with the entire squad rather than just 3 guys. That bit was AMAZING, certainly more interesting than the last 10 hours of the game with Sheppard going: "Boohoo I don't know if we can win." and everyone else cheering him up. (Get it? It's character development because the normal roles are reversed, h3h3.)

I don't know, my silver sword now does like 50 more damage than the one I had 5 levels ago, but I can shred through level 16 ghosts and stuff, whereas I had to role around and wittle down a level 18 one with a skull a few levels back for around 20 minutes.

Unless you are at a sufficient level you deal almost no damage and die in one hit or take 90% damage from overleveled monsters even with good equipment and stats.

I don't know, that game runs on space logic that I don't fully understand. I always felt like gear mattered, but it could have been lying to me the whole time. And it was so long, leveling to high enough to murder anyone was never an issue.
